NEWLY-promoted Sporting Knavesmire and Malton & Norton maintained 100 per cent starts to the season on Monday night with victories in the York Minster Engineering League premier division.

Sporting won 2-1 away at F1 Racing while M&N enjoyed a 2-0 success over Osbaldwick.

Although F1 Racing applied plenty of first half pressure, they failed to convert their early chances and Chris Dempsey struck the crossbar with a 25th minute penalty after being fouled in the area.

Further chances were seen at both ends before the interval but neither side could break the deadlock.

The second period once again saw F1 starting brightly but George Catlin in the Knavesmire goal pulled off a fantastic save to keep his side level.

Just eight minutes into the half, a Sporting free-kick was parried into the path of Jake Duckworth who made no mistake in slotting home from six yards out. With attacks now frequent at both ends of the field, the second goal loomed and it was Dempsey who grabbed it - the striker volleying home an Adam Tiffany cross to equalise.

It took Knavesmire just two minutes to regain the lead when a hopeful ball into the F1 penalty area was missed by the defence, allowing James Windle to round his man before steering the ball underneath the goalkeeper

Malton & Norton took their tally to nine points from three games as second half goals from Si Reeves and Scott Preston secured a two goal win over Osbaldwick at Norton College.

All the other divisions below the top flight kick off tomorrow.

Huntington Rovers moved four points clear at the top of the table after winning 3-1 away at Tadcaster Magnets on Wednesday night.

Chris Dyson (2) and James Edmond grabbed Huntington's goals with Brian Blewitt on the scoresheet for Magnets.

York Railway Institute suffered their fourth straight defeat at the hands of Dunnington and are currently next-to-bottom of the table.

Goals from Robert Hart and John Heads secured a 2-0 away victory for Dunnington who moved up to third in the table.
