WIGGINTON Grasshoppers went top of the York Minster Engineering League premier division following a 12-1 demolition of Riccall United.

Both teams saw many changes from previous line-ups due to holidays and the weekend's festivals, and it was the home side were much the stronger in depth, even if the scoreline belied the hard-fought nature of the match.

At the interval, only two goals separated the teams - Jamie Green's 11th-minute volley and a Gary Newton penalty on the stroke of half-time.

The second period saw plenty of goalmouth action with Wigginton dominating.

Substitute Eddy Clapham added their third with his first touch just after at the break and Newton grabbed his second three minutes later.

Matt Tiplady increased the lead to six with a quick-fire brace before Will Ramsay struck the goal of the game on the hour mark, firing a 25-yard free-kick into the stanchion.

Newton completed his hat-trick before Danny Franks found the net on his return to his former stomping ground after nine years away.

Mike Byram's low strike from 20 yards made it 9-1 before Tiplady added his third and Newton bagged a second penalty to take his personal tally to four.

Jamie Green bookended the scoring with a last-minute header to complete Wigginton's biggest victory for well over a decade.

Huntington Rovers joined Wigginton and Church Fenton on nine points with a third consecutive victory, this time a 3-2 win over Dringhouses.

Rovers took the lead midway through the first half with a well-taken Tom Metcalfe goal before 'Houses equalised ten minutes later. The home side regained the initiative with the goal of the game just before the interval, a crisp header from James Edmond following a pinpoint cross from Matty Day.

Dringhouses forced their way back early in the second period, a goal from a neat team move making it 2-2.

But Steve Jarman handed Huntington the initiative again and the home side hung on in a scrappy final 20 minutes.

Champions Old Malton St Mary's saw off local rivals Brooklyn 5-2.

Marcus Godsell (3), Daman Cox and Dean Readman struck for St Mary's with Michael Brown and Callum Dent replying for Brooklyn, who are yet to get off the mark this term.

Last Wednesday, Church Fenton maintained their 100 per cent start with a 4-2 defeat of F1 Racing.

Goals came from man-of-the-match Rob MacQuarrie, Liam McEntee (2) and substitute Jonah Beecher, Chris Dempsey getting both replies.

Callum Richardson, Robert Chipps, Dave Chandler and Simon Castle struck to give Dunnington a second consecutive 4-0 win as they beat Copmanthorpe.

York RI took the lead at Malton & Norton through Ben Jones but their newly promoted hosts rallied to secure a 2-1 triumph and continue their winning start in the top flight.

Matthew Reeves levelled before the dependable Simon Reeves netted the winner.

Huntington had a bloodless 3-0 win at Brooklyn. Ashley Hill struck twice for the visitors and James Edmond a spectacular third.

Defences were on top in a goalless draw between Osbaldwick and Tadcaster Magnets.

Josh Brigham struck for Riccall United against Sporting Knavesmire, but goals from James Windle, Danny Owers and George Wilson gave the premier division new boys a 3-1 success in their first-ever top-flight game.
