TIM Bresnan has called on Yorkshire to put the disappointment of recent semi-finals behind them as they prepare to face Surrey in the last-four of the Royal London One-Day Cup.

The Vikings lost out to Gloucestershire at the same stage of the competition last season before being knocked out the T20 Blast this season by Durham when just one win from the final.

The White Rose county have not won a limited overs competition since the C&G Trophy in 2002 and have only once secured a place in a final when they lost out to Hampshire on T20 Finals Day in 2012.

But Bresnan has called on the squad to not let recent failures affect them and particularly the loss to Durham despite Sunday’s match at Headingley coming just eight days after that defeat.

“It’s a different kettle of fish. T20 is such a short format that it doesn’t take much to win or lose the game while 50-over cricket gives you a bit more time to get back into the game if you’re behind the eight-ball, which is what we have done well this year,” he said.

“Our white ball form has been pretty good of late so we’re backing ourselves to get the result that we want.”

Yorkshire are set to be without the likes of David Willey and Adil Rashid for the encounter due to England commitments, but Bresnan feels those coming into the side can embrace the challenge and prove the depth of the squad.

“The players that we’ve had in to cover for those spots have produced the goods to get us this far in the tournament. We’ve got to back them again to do the job.

“Surrey are missing (Jason) Roy but they’re still going to be a tough challenge for us. We’re going to have to play really well, but a home crowd and home conditions should suit us.”
