YORK City will follow up their 6-1 humbling at Gateshead with a visit to a Forest Green team who have failed to score more than a solitary goal in their last dozen contests.

The Gloucestershire outfit, who sit 11th in the National League standings after four matches, have also hit the target just three times this term.

Only Bromley and Torquay, with two apiece, have netted on fewer occasions in the division so far although, if past history counts for anything, the Minstermen will need to be aware of two strikers who have proven their nemeses over recent seasons.

Matt Tubbs will be looking to notch for a fifth different club against City, having managed to breach North Yorkshire defences in the past for Portsmouth, Wimbledon, Crawley and Salisbury.

In fact, during ten outings against tomorrow’s visitors, he has plundered eight goals.

Tubbs, now 32, came off the bench to replace former Dagenham & Redbridge forward Rhys Murphy just before the hour mark during Tuesday night’s 1-0 win at Woking

Murphy also has three goals to his name from four appearances against City, although the latest - for Wimbledon last season – represents his only effort in 19 matches, stretching back to January 2.

The two strikers are yet to start a game together, however, since being recruited over the summer and ex-Peterborough and Swindon chief Mark Cooper is expected to choose between the pair again as he considers his starting XI for the New Lawn clash with 6ft 1in target man Christian Doidge set to continue leading the line.

The hosts, meanwhile, are likely to be without midfielder Rob Sinclair, who was injured during the first half-hour at Woking.

Experienced former Northampton and Preston campaigner Darren Carter replaced him on the night and is now poised to feature from the start, but Charlie Clough, Sam Wedgbury, Marcus Kelly and Elliott Freer remain in the Rovers treatment room.

Forest Green ended a run of seven matches without a home win by beating Gateshead 1-0 last weekend courtesy of a lucky, last-minute Dale Bennett goal, which was intended as a cross.

The back-to-back victories still leave Cooper’s men five points off the pace set by leaders Tranmere, who have kicked off the campaign with four straight wins and taken over as favourites for the title at 11/4 with Forest Green’s odds having widened to 5-1.

Forest Green (probable): Russell, Pinnock, Bennett, Racine, Jefford, Noble, Carter, Traore, Marsh-Brown, Murphy, Doidge.
