HOLGATE 'B' are Afternoon League champions for a second year running in the York C&IU League after overcoming Burton Lane in their rearranged match.

Their 2-0 win leaves Acomb 'A' as runners-up.

Meanwhile, Holgate need to take six points from their outstanding game against Poppleton Road to edge in front of Clarence and nick the Evening League crown too.

Clarence have completed their fixtures and head the table with 99 points as they bid to retain the title they won last year.

Clarence ace Gary Bunce already retained a main trophy, having beaten Acomb's Paul Craven 21-8 in the Singles competition final.

Craven, playing in a C&IU final for the first time, started well enough when edging in to take two shots on the first end as Bunce laid three.

The Clarence ace won the next end with a three but Craven drew level on the next and then scored three to take the lead.

At this point, however, Bunce brought the mat up to shorten the jack length and it paid off as he won the next five ends to lead 14-6 and gave Craven a mountain to climb.

Craven could never make a telling score to get back into the game and it was only a matter of time before Bunce reached 21 shots to win the game.

Elsewhere, Dave Imeson's Wigginton 'B' team still lead the York Veterans' League division one table after a 16-15 home win against Barbican.

Twenty-six Wigginton members competed in the annual President's Day Rosebowl competition which was won by David Hawkins and Moira Ellis.
