IT’S THE start of the new Women’s Super League T20 competition today, with Yorkshire Diamonds facing Loughborough Lightning at Headingley.

We have seen a bit of captain Lauren Winfield around Headingley, with her having a few one-on-one sessions with Rich Pyrah.

It’s the start of a new competition, and it would be nice to see Yorkshire start that journey with some good cricket and a trophy.

This is going to be a great experience and challenge for Rich so early in his coaching career.

The concept is a very new thing and the foundations are still being set, and he has the chance to influence those through his coaching.

He will gain a lot of respect from the girls having played so much first-class cricket, and it’s a step in the right direction for him and can only bode well for his future career.

He seems to have enjoyed his first six to eight months as a coach, which is the main thing.

He’s had some good learning experiences with ourselves, and he’s been great to have around, giving fresh ideas on things.

It’s important to have that mix of coaches who have been out of the game a while and others who haven’t, like Rich.

I’d imagine that Rich is someone who isn’t 100 per cent on what kind of coach he is yet given the short time he’s been in the role, so it’s important to have people like Martyn Moxon and Jason Gillespie around to mentor them and develop them as coaches ready for when they need to take the step up.

*The way we have played our limited overs cricket over the last month or so has shown hallmarks of the Championship-winning team.

When we’ve needed someone to stand up, they have done. It’s that sense of belief we can win from any situation.

The perfect example was Tim Bresnan in the one-day game against Nottinghamshire at Scarborough on Wednesday.

We were 50-4 and Brez and Adil put on a great partnership. Brez finished with 95 not out, his highest List A score at just the right time.

It’s something we haven’t had over the last few years. But it’s not just about this season.

Our aim is to create a good one-day culture and not just play good limited overs cricket for this year but also for the many years.

If we can keep backing it up, eventually the trophies will come.
