SHERBURN defeated promotion chasing Cliffe to seal the IT Sports Mixed Tennis League division three title.

However, with just two weeks of the season to go, the final destinations of the other league trophies are still unknown.

Top scorers Tristan Gretton and Rachel Huggins won 11-1 in the final round to secure Sherburn's points and the trophy.

Bishopthorpe are still second, led by unbeaten Mick Miller and Ellie Page, with their win at Wilberfoss, just ahead of Fulford who move into third place after the unbeaten Nigel Skelton and Wendy Cook ensured their side took the points against a determined Appleton Roebuck.

Poppleton require just one more point to retain the divsion one trophy after Jack Hannah and Claire Morrell won all three rubbers 11-1 as they eased passed Fulford.

Dunnington’s Brad Swainston and Emma Loten won 28 games to keep their side in second place ahead of York 1 who had two good wins - with new pairing Alistair Johnson and Sarah Dwyer finishing with 11-1 against York 2, and Paul Whurr and Jill Le Pla proving too strong against Rufforth.

In division two, a timely seasonal debut for Heworth’s Helen Larkin and partner Oliver Hicks helped their side to a narrow win at promotion rivals Wetherby Castlegarth.

Dunnington are now in second place on games difference after a victory, inspired by Greg Ashcroft and Rosie Todd, which left York 3 in a relegation fight.

Rob Jackson and Jill Rounce kept the games difference to a minimum as Bubwith lost to promotion hopefuls Poppleton.

Rowntree Park had Nils Morozs playing his first match and teamed up with Sandra Pauw as they beat Poppleton to close up the relegation battle.

It is all change in division four with David Lloyd 2 taking over top spot after beating closest rivals York 4 in a well matched encounter and then sealing promotion with another hard fought victory against Dunnington.

Jack Lewis and Anne Jackson won 27 games for York as they beat Wetherby Castlegarth to remain favourites for promotion, possibly on games difference.

Pip Cook and Elizabeth Mallory won 28 games as Fulford beat Bishopthorpe and then the unbeaten Oliver Lewis with Pauline Craddock steered them to another win at Wetherby Castlegarth and into third place.

Division five is still wide open. Rowntree Park remain top despite going down to Sutton upon Derwent by just 8 games and Riccall moved into second place at the expense of opponents York.

Rob Proudley and Helen McDonald were unbeaten as they kept Alne in the promotion chase with a win against Appleton Roebuck.

The final matches in division six will decide both relegation and promotion after Rufforth’s Andy Ivel and Denise Riley were again unbeaten as they beat relegation favourites Copmanthorpe.

New Earswick finally won a point in a draw against David Lloyd (after many close score lines) but Lloyd bounced back with a four game win at Poppleton.

Neil Hawkins and Ed Hope led Tollerton to another win in division eight and closed in on the title, just ahead of New Earswick who won by just 2 games against promotion rivals Riccall.

David Lloyd closed in on their third title as their fourth team need just one further point for the silverware in division ten as they overwhelmed Fulford and closest rivals Appleton Roebuck went down to a Poppleton side inspired by Harry Bowden and Margaret Evans.

Rufforth renewed their promotion aspirations after Brian Clayden and Alison Tullie were unbeaten in the win against Sutton upon Derwent and Tom Frame and Vicky Wrigley were unbeatable against Wilberfoss.
