HEWORTH returned to winning ways with a comfortable 36-16 victory over Skirlaugh Bulls A in Yorkshire Mens League division one.

The Villagers led 22-12 at the break and, despite a spirited effort by the visitors, were always in command.

The Bulls opened the scoring after eight minutes with a try by lively scrum half Harrison Morrow converted by hooker Scott Hodges but Heworth hit back four minutes later when Skirlaugh failed to deal with a high bomb from player-coach George Elliott and centre Lewis Worthington pounced on the loose ball to score.

On 18 minutes, Elliott and the returning Liam Richmond combined to put Wayne Foster through a gap and the veteran prop rumbled over from forty metres to touch down by the posts for loose forward Joe Deighton to add the extras.

The hosts went further ahead on the half hour when Elliott forced his way over from close range and Deighton tagged on the goal to make it 16-6.

The Humbersiders responded on 35 minutes with a touchdown by winger Elliott Norris goaled by Hodges but, right on the stroke of half time, home stand-off Ross Varley weaved his way to the line from twenty metres out and Deighton's third conversion gave the Villagers a 22-12 lead.

Two minutes into the second period the Black and Whites increased their advantage when some slick handling led to winger Callum Worthington crossing in the corner for an unconverted score.

On 49 minutes, Heworth assumed full control after good work by Varley and Elliott sent Deighton crashing over for a try, improved by Elliott to put them out of reach at 32-12.

It was still not over though and, ten minutes later, Elliott burst through on the halfway line and outpaced several defenders to touch down for a fine individual effort.

Morrow's second try for the Bulls with quarter of an hour remaining proved merely a consolation and the home side ran out comfortable winners.

Elliott was Heworth's man of the match with Deighton and substitute Ben Eastwood also prominent.
