FORMER Watford goalkeeper Luke Simpson impressed on trial for York City today against Bolton Wanderers.

Simpson, 21, played for just over an hour as York lost 2-0 to the League One club at Bootham Crescent.

Manager Jackie McNamara had kept details of Simpson's arrival under wraps prior to the game and he was listed only as a 'trialist' on the teamsheet.

Afterwards, however, McNamara praised Simpson's performance and confirmed that a decision on his future was imminent.

Released by Watford this summer, Simpson started his career at Oldham Athletic and has also played for Workington and Accrington Stanley.

He spent a period on loan at champions Leicester City in 2014-15 but failed to make an appearance.
