YORK City manager Jackie McNamara watched his side beat Blackburn Rovers yesterday in a behind-closed-doors friendly.
New striker Scott Fenwick scored twice and Aidan Connolly grabbed the third as the Minstermen won 3-0 at Rovers’ Brockhall training ground.
Blackburn, who are now managed by Owen Coyle, fielded a relatively young side although Spanish goalkeeper David Raya and Republic of Ireland under-21 international John O’Sullivan were among those boasting first team experience.
McNamara, meanwhile, selected the majority of his side from players who finished Saturday’s 3-0 victory at Stalybridge Celtic.
Latest signing Franklyn Clarke was again involved in midfield while Scott Flinders kept goal.
McNamara, pictured, said: “It was very hot but the lads battled excellently in the heat and it was a really good performance.
“I am seeing people gelling all around the team now, which is encouraging.”
