DAVID LLOYD are the first team to win promotion in the IT Sports Mixed Tennis League after their win last week against Poppleton in division ten.

They also need only one more point to take the title.

Fiona White and Will Clarke top scored with 28 games, just ahead of Michele and Malcolm Cossey.

Fulford won their first match at Wilberfoss led by the unbeaten Su Watson and James Nelson, just outscoring Coral Mutter and Ben Taylor.

Rebecca and Nick Turnbull achieved the perfect 36 for Poppleton as they closed in on retaining the division one crown.

Clare Morrell and Jack Hannah also won 34 games.

Dunnington are now second after a two-game win against Wigginton. They were unable to defeat Eleanor Bradshaw and Ben Walker.

Fulford beat York seconds to ease out of the drop zone and leave last year’s two promoted teams, David Lloyd and Rufforth, adrift.

Heworth retained their six-point lead in division two after Helen Gray and Stephen Jones inspired another win to reverse the result from the first half of the season against second-placed Bubwith.

Wetherby Castlegarth remain third. They lost to Dunnington but bounced back with Becky Jones and Nigel Williams winning 27 games against York.

Sandra Burley and Andy Withers led Wigginton to another win against Dunnington to leave the relegation fight wide open.

York and David Lloyd have closed in on the promotion places in division four.

York took the points at Dunnington, who remain third, led by the unbeaten Anne Jackson and Jack Lewis. David Lloyd inflicted York’s first defeat in a close match, York unable to claw back the 10-2 by Frances Mutter and Trevor Watson. David Lloyd then had an even closer win against relegation-threatened Bishopthorpe.

Sandra Robinson and Steve Walker were unbeaten as Rowntree Park beat beating promotion rivals Alne to stay top of division five.

York stayed second on games difference with a win against Fulford led by Beth Barker and Jake Lonsdale.

Michelle Hall and Andrew Dunning top scored as Riccall went third with wins against Appleton Roebuck and, in a two-game thriller, at Sutton upon Derwent.

Fulford eased out of the automatic relegation places with victory at Appleton led by Pam Campbell and Alex Herriott winning 26 games.

Division six has split in half, with Rufforth top after Denise Riley and Andy Ivel won 27 games against New Earswick to keep them a point ahead of Wilberfoss.

Foss beat Wigginton by just four games as Debbie Holman and Andy Withers proved unbeatable, and then thrashed Copmanthorpe with Dinah Burke and James Hunt winning 30 games and Ros Latham and Tim Hunt 29.

Ellen Strabel and Josh Hunt, with 30 games, kept Tollerton in the promotion mix with wins over New Earswick and Copmanthorpe.

Cliffe and Dunnington are now promotion favourites in division seven.

Leaders Cliffe beat Sutton upon Derwent, while Heworth lost ground on the top two after losing to Wistow for whom Janet Falkingham and Dave Hearn were unbeatable. Bubwith beat Stillington to go out of the bottom two.

The promotion fight in division eight is wide open.

Tollerton kept top spot with a two-game win against Appleton Roebuck inspired by Ed Hope and Neil Hawkins. In another close match, Bishopthorpe dented Riccall’s hopes and rose to second. New Earswick went third after beating Tadcaster.

Rufforth lost their first match of term against division nine leaders Wilberfoss. Aileen Hunt and Ben Alport were unbeaten.

Wigginton went second after they overwhelmed Fulford, Yvonne Petruso and Andy Galloway winning 32 games and Debbie Holman and Rob Walker 31.
