BURN maintained their HPH York Vale Cricket League division one title push with a comprehensive 93-run win against Stockton & Hopgrove on a day punctuated by thunderstorms.

Three of their top four batsmen scored half-centuries as they rattled up 260-6.

Mark Webster (57), Tom Burke (54) and Ed Clarke (53) punished the early bowling while Jake Webster maintained the momentum with an unbeaten 36 late on.

Stockton’s Steve Fraser (33) and Kalum Perera (38) responded well but when they were out the innings faded against Ashley Abbott (4-23) and Jake Webster (3-43).

James Mackie hit a maiden century as Bishopthorpe overcame Wheldrake’s total of 164 in just 23 overs.

The 19-year old, who hadn’t previously scored a first-team fifty, was promoted to open the batting and made the most of his opportunity, hitting 14 fours and a six as he raced to a 61-ball century.

Earlier, he had changed the course of the game with a brilliant piece of fielding to break a 105-run partnership between the Wheldrake openers. Martin Lambert (46) cut firmly to backward point where Mackie dived and threw down the stumps at the non-striker’s end as Anthony Carter (46) failed to make his ground.

Ben Johnson recovered from 78-7 to post 143 against Melbourne thanks to 52 from Ben Morrison. Ben Thompson took 4-27 and a couple of catches while Brian Underwood claimed 4-41.

Rain ruined the Kelfield versus Ovington game which featured an unbeaten 133 by in-form Pete Kelly as the York-based side notched up 234-4.

Joe Whale’s innings was the backbone of the successful Ovington II run chase against Stillingfleet in HPH York Vale Cricket League division two.

His 74, which included ten fours and three sixes, enabled Ovington to win with nearly ten overs to spare.

Tom Mounsor took eight wickets as South Cave & Brantingham and Malton & Old Malton were frustrated by the weather. Chris Bingham carried Malton to 170 with 66. Five of Mounsor’s victims were bowled, but a heavy thunderstorm prevented Cave from attempting the chase.

Askham Bryan’s top order rattled up 209-2 against Clifton Alliance, Dan Wheeler leading the way with an unbeaten 109. Alliance’s reply reached 151-2, Mark Taylor scoring 72 not out as Askham won by 59 runs.

Yapham recovered from 34-2 after 18 overs to 206-8 against tight Burn II bowling in division three as Alex Brown (72) and Craig Redhead (42) shared a partnership of 110.

Burn II's reply was checked by the economical Ed Hutchinson (11-4-22-0) and Will Cardy (7-4-6-1). Adrian Huetson (59) batted patiently, but Burn were always behind the run rate.

Thorpe Willoughby dispatched nine-man Selby by ten wickets to remain top of the table.

Selby were bowled out for 89 with Steve Jackson having miserly figures of 0-9 from eight overs and Danny Crockford taking 2-9 from his ten overs. Youngster Jordy Leybourne mopped up with 3-29.
