HEWORTH are the new leaders of IT Sports Mixed Tennis League division two after ending previous leaders Dunnington's unbeaten run.

Oliver and Sally Hicks won all three rubbers for Heworth in that victory, and then Hayley Banks partnered Oliver to win at Rowntree Park, great support from Nick Latcham and Louise Haritakis in both matches helping them to open a four-point gap at the summit.

Poppleton also beat Dunnington, Phil Sinton and Hilary Spencer unbeaten, to leave four teams below Heworth separated only by games difference.

Wetherby Castlegarth stay in the pack after David Corbyn and Rachel Hill led them to the points against Wigginton, though they lost by two games at York.

Poppleton stayed top of division one after a comfortable win at Wigginton and they now have a four-point cushion after closest rivals York lost to Dunnington, whose Alex McClean and Karen Mitchell were unbeaten.

Fulford recorded their first win, led by Josh Beavers and Joanne Middleton.

Sherburn, one of only five unbeaten sides in the league, top division three after Appleton Roebuck could find no answer to the 30 games from Phil Bremner and Rachel Huggins. Wilberfoss moved out of the bottom two with a good win at second-placed Cliffe despite 27 games from Dave Tomlinson and Kate Reader.

Mick Miller and Ellie Page helped Bishopthorpe up to third with a win against Copmanthorpe.

Gordon Bruce made his seasonal debut and, with partner Anne Jackson, secured another win for York in division four as they opened a gap at the top.

In division five, Rowntree Park lost their unbeaten record to Appleton Roebuck by four games.

Riccall’s Andrew Dunning and Michelle Hall were unbeaten for second-placed Riccall at Fulford and then included a match-winning 12-0 against Cawood.

Cawood won at Alne, though, led by unbeaten David Welsh and Lorraine Bishop.

Patrick Evans and Sarah Skidmore helped Rufforth go top of division six after victory against Tollerton, while a good team performance by David Lloyd downed previous leaders Wilberfoss. Robbie Greenall and Sue Jones top-scored as Poppleton defeated New Earswick.

Bob Burbridge and Rachel Booth won 28 games as division seven leaders Dunnington beat Wistow.

Cliffe went second with a narrow win over Bubwith.

Sutton upon Derwent left the relegation zone after Nick Hobson and Tanya Ward bagged 27 games against Stillington and Ward teamed up with Matt Ward to see off Bubwith.

Wilberfoss head division nine after Charlie Dodds and Karen Pratt led the way in victory over Dunnington 6, following John Latham and Aileen Hunt's top-scoring efforts against Bishopthorpe.

Unbeaten Mark Cook and Liz Paxman kept Fulford in the race after a good win at Dunnington.

Malcolm and Michelle Cossey won 28 games as division ten leaders David Lloyd beat Sutton upon Derwent.

Appleton look favourites for the second promotion spot after Richard Barwick and Julia Campbell finished with a 10-2 to ensure victory at Wilberfoss.
