NICK and Belinda Turnbull were the week’s top scorers in the IT Sports Mixed Tennis League with an amazing 34 games to help Poppleton return to the top of division one.

York firsts won again as Alistair Johnson and Louise Marshman amassed 28 games, helping them stay just ahead of their second string who defeated Fulford.

The top three in the table are separated only by games difference.

Division two is splitting into two already, with unbeaten Dunnington holding top spot after Greg Ashcroft and Charlotte Mitchell won 29 games against Wigginton.

Heworth’s Oliver Hicks and Hayley Banks won all three rubbers 9-3 in their victory at Poppleton, but they dropped to third after visiting Bubwith as they were unable to beat Rob Jackson and Jill Rounce in a competitive match.

Sherburn are the new leaders of division three after visitors Wilberfoss were unable to beat top-scorers Tristan Gretton and Rachel Huggins.

Max Los and Goldie Cosby were Sutton on Derwent’s match-winners against Bishopthorpe with a first-round 11-1 win.

David Lloyd head division four after top-scorers Richard Tasker and Sharon Davidson finished with a 11-1 win in an otherwise close match at Bishopthorpe to stay ahead of Fulford on games difference.

Fulford beat Castlegarth by the exact same 61-47 scoreline, led by Oliver Lewis and Pauline Craddock, who won their second rubber 10-2 to clinch the points.

Howard Pallister and Ann Jackson were unbeaten for York as they saw off Dunnington to retain their perfect record.

Stillington and Poppleton shared the points in a 54-54 draw for both teams to move off the bottom of the table.

Rowntree Park remain unbeaten in division five after meeting Alne, staying just ahead of the other unbeaten side, Riccall, who edged victory at Appleton Roebuck by four games thanks to unbeaten Andrew Dunning and Michelle Hall, who took 27.

The top three in division six all retained their perfect records.

Leaders Wilberfoss had the closest match, beating Wigginton 62-46 led by top-scorers James Hunt and Jess Cawood, while Andy Ivel and Denise Riley were again unbeaten with 27 games as second-placed Rufforth beat New Earswick.

Hot on their heels are Poppleton, who eased past Copmanthorpe, led by top-scorers Phil Sinton and Hilary Spencer with 32 games.

Heworth are the only unbeaten side in division seven after their meeting with Wistow, whose first couple had to concede due to injury.

Both Stillington teams earned a point with draws, the second team getting off the mark against Bubwith led by Tim Adams and Jennifer Jones with 30 games.

Wilberfoss and Rufforth drew in division nine to retain unbeaten records. Dan Russell and Kate Lewis were Rufforth’s heroes, winning 28 games including a 12-0.

Dunnington 5 and 6 met in a close derby, Jack Forsdyke and Jenny Rossington sealing the points for the fifth team with an 11-1.

Malcolm and Michelle Cossey won all three rubbers for David Lloyd against Poppleton and they are now the only unbeaten side in division ten, though they were pressed by their visitors.

Wilberfoss earned their first points as they squeezed passed Fulford thanks to unbeaten Mark Screeton and Nicola Ramshaw.
