SAM CADE overcame fellow York fighter Stevie Wilson to win the Northern Area super-heavyweight title at Henry's Gym in Acomb.
York Boxing Club's Cade outpointed home-club fighter Wilson over three three-minute rounds and is now ranked among England's top ten boxers at his weight.
Cade, who only started the sport six years ago, is 37.
His trainer, Billy Wilson, said: "He is an inspiration to everybody, because he shows that it's never too late."
Elsewhere, Layerthorpe-based York Masters Club professionals Paul Gordon and Danny Holmes, who are both trained and managed by Glenn Banks, won their respective bouts during a Mark Bateson promotion at Elland Road, Leeds.
Super-middleweight Gordon, who weighed in at 11st 10lb for his third pro contest, overcame Eastbourne's Scott Hillman 40-36 on points.
Holmes, meanwhile, made his pro debut by forcing a stoppage in the third round after tipping the scales at 10st 3lb in his light-welterweight duel with Jack Green, of Newton Abbot.
A delighted Banks said: "Paul put in an improved performance with combination punching and accuracy, while Danny made a dream debut. Green could not handle his speed, accuracy and work-rate.
"He also mixed that with some well-timed attacks from head to body to force his stoppage."
A total of 200 fans travelled from York to support the two fighters, who are sponsored by Judge Electrical and York Building Services.
