TEN pairs, nearly half of the 24 participating, proved unbeatable in the four matches taking place in the Tyke Petroleum Men’s Tennis League.

Starbeck, too, had obstinate visitors, as Ben Orton and Mark Bland dug in their heels, scoring 2½-21 for David Lloyd, who extracted nine points from just 55 games won – nearly the maximum possible.

Phil Bremner and Stephen Duree were again unbeatable for Sherburn with 2½-22.

The day’s top score, though, came from visiting pair Dave Bradley and Paul Dadvar bagging 2½-28 as promoted Appleton Roebuck maintained their winning start to life in division three.

Division four’s Dave Luscombe and James Pittaway were unbowed for Appleton Roebuck 2nds. However, host captain Dave Dearing held steady with 2½-22 partnering young star, Matt Blackburn, only to be bettered by Matt’s dad, Mark, and Rob Abbott as Copmanthorpe 2 scooped a tidy 8½-point season-opening success.
