WIGGINTON Grasshoppers took another step towards the York Sunday Morning Football League division one trophy thanks to a midweek 7-1 thrashing of Dunnington.

However, the crunch clash is tonight as Hoppers go to second-placed Hounds (6.30pm) in what could be a title shootout.

Wigginton are eight points clear with two matches left but victory for Hounds would put the title destiny in their hands, cutting the gap to five points with two games in hand.

In division two, leaders NUR were toppled 5-1 in their final game of term at mid-table Selby Olympia.

NUR are already guaranteed promotion, though the result means Cliffe need only four points from five games in hand to take the crown.

Meanwhile, the York Sunday Morning League is looking for a sponsor for next season.

There are a few sponsorship packages available and anyone interested in getting involved is asked to phone Ashley Robertson on 07885 561458 or email knaptonlionsfc@gmail.com.

Robertson said: "The league is looking to grow and is in the process of having a new website and now has Facebook and Twitter accounts.

"If anyone would sponsor the league it would benefit both parties with the league having more than 400 players, staff, fans and committee members that any business will reach.

"It will help the league grow, and helping out your local footballing community is always a bonus."

There are also fundraising tools on the league's social media accounts for anyone interested in making donations.
