PROMOTION-CHASING Bristol Rovers will visit York City tomorrow with Sky Bet League Two’s most lethal marksman in their ranks.

Matty Taylor has netted 28 times this term and in nine of his last ten outings for the Pirates, including a run of eight consecutive games on the scoresheet.

The ex-Chester City and Forest Green Rovers forward has also grabbed 13 goals in his last dozen appearances and is two ahead of Leyton Orient’s Jay Simpson in the contest for the division’s golden boot.

Less than a third of Taylor’s efforts, though, have come away from the Memorial Ground with the 26-year-old, former England C international only boasting a tally of nine this term on his travels.

Taylor, who started out in the Southern League South & West division with North Leigh, has already surpassed his previous best campaign as a professional, having plundered 20 during the Pirates’ National League promotion-winning season last year.

His achievements were also recognised with a place in the PFA’s League Two Team of the Year.

Rovers boss Darrell Clarke has only one injury concern, meanwhile, ahead of the trip to Bootham Crescent with midfielder Stuart Sinclair still missing, having been sidelined with groin trouble since February.

Clarke is normally very flexible in his choice of formations but, with Rovers needing a win to enhance their automatic promotion hopes, he seems set to field the attacking 4-4-2 system that he started with during last weekend’s 3-1 home victory over Exeter.

The Pirates, who are assured of making the play-offs, go into the Bootham Crescent clash lying just one position and point outside the automatic promotion spots and two behind second-placed Accrington.

Only runaway champions Northampton have won more games in the division than the 24 Rovers have racked up.

Clarke’s men have also lost just one of their last 12 matches – a run that includes nine victories.

On the road, though, last season’s National League play-off final winners have only won two of their last seven fixtures – against struggling pair Notts County (2-0) and Newport (4-1)

Bristol Rovers probable: Mildenhall, Leadbitter, Lockyer, McChrystal, Brown, Bodin, Mansell, Lines, Montano, Gaffney, Taylor.
