OLD Malton St Mary’s moved a step closer to the York Minster Engineering League premier division title following a 3-0 triumph against F1 Racing.

F1 carved out a couple of early chances, before St Mary's moved into a 1-0 lead prior to half-time.

The Ryedale side didn't have it all their own way but a second goal after the break calmed the home side’s nerves and they added a late third to secure a comfortable scoreline.

Wigginton Grasshoppers stayed a point ahead of St Mary's and moved to the top of the table following their big win at Harrison Signs.

However, they have only one game left and Saints have two - with the title race now between this pair, with Dunnington and Huntington Rovers, in third and fourth, having completed their fixtures.

A well-executed low drive from Mike Byram gave Hoppers the lead after 16 minutes but Dan Collins levelled matters from close range two minutes later.

The game was littered with chances, and saw the woodwork play its part on many occasions.

Matthew Tiplady finally got the ball in the net again to put the visitors 2-1 ahead before Jamie Willstrop slotted into the bottom corner ten minutes before the break to make it 3-1.

Rob Hutton then made it 3-2 before James Barrett made a goalline clearance to stop the scores becoming level once again.

Gary Newton added two 25-yard strikes to Wiggy’s tally either side of the break, with Willstrop adding two more to complete his hat-trick and send Wigginton 7-2 ahead in the 55th minute.

Luke Addison made it 8-2 before Collins added his second of the game to pull one back for Signs. A late James Barrett penalty made it 9-3.

Harrison Signs’ defeat leaves them stranded in the relegation zone following Brooklyn’s 4-3 win over Tadcaster Magnets.

Dave Thompson struck all four goals for the home side, who now have a chance of premier league football next season.

Huntington Rovers completed their season with a 5-1 triumph over York RI.

Jon James (2) and Aaron Collis gave Rovers a 3-1 half-time lead, after Leigh Dutton had bagged for the visitors. James completed his hat-trick midway through the second period before James Edmond added Rovers’ fifth late on.

In division one, Sporting Knavesmire and Pocklington Town collected maximum points to keep up the pressure on title favourites Malton & Norton.

Knavesmire sit three points clear at the top following their 2-1 win over Rawcliffe.

James Windle put them ahead before Paul Branscombe levelled for Rawcliffe. Jake Duckworth hit the winner with a little under ten minutes remaining.

Pocklington gained a 4-1 win over Heslington, for whom Daniel Hood scored a consolation.

In the Junior Cup, James Gilbertson struck a brace for Haxby United to give them a 2-0 win at Selby Olympia. Gilbertson now has a personal tally of 31 goals this season.

It took penalties to separate Wigginton Grasshoppers reserves and Malton & Norton reserves following a 0-0 draw in the Reserve Cup. Grasshoppers went through to the next round following a 5-4 win in the shootout.
