TADCASTER Albion have turned a crucial Corner in their Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division promotion bid in what is being called their Week of Destiny after a dominant single-goal victory over local rivals Garforth Town at the i2i stadium.

More good news followed after the final whistle when The Brewers, who have three games left, discovered that title rivals Handsworth Parramore had lost 2-0 at Brigg Town, putting Taddy a point clear with a game in hand.

The Brewers boss Billy Miller made two changes to the side that were beaten by Maltby Main last Wednesday, Tom Corner and Conor Sellars coming back in for Carl Stewart and Gregg Anderson.

After three minutes, Jimmy Beadle’s piledriver was well blocked, the pacy and tricky Sellars then having an effort well saved before Corner’s shot was magnificently deflected for a corner.

The Brewers squandered another opportunity after seven minutes. Jono Greening’s teasing free-kick being well saved by Dominic Smith, Corner blazing over from three yards. Two minutes later, Sellars’ volley trickled just the wrong side of the post.

The first time the Miners seriously challenged was in the 24th minute as a long ball was chased down by Curtly Martin-Wyatt but Gary Stevens impressively headed clear, while a minute later the towering Martin-Wyatt's powerful strike bounced just wide.

The deadlock was broken in the 28th minute and The Brewers thoroughly deserved their lead. Josh Barrett’s fizzing cross was not dealt with by Smith, and Josh Greening fired the loose ball goalwards, Corner flicking a looping effort off his shin, which arced over Luke McCrum and Smith.

The lead was almost doubled immediately, Beadle’s header dipping just over the bar from Sellars’ free-kick, and he went close again with a header just before half-time.

After a pigeon wandering around provided unusual half-time entertainment, The Brewers were dominant again after the break, despite it being their fifth match in eight days, although the visitors were defending well, such as early in the half when Corner's ferocious effort was blocked.

Jason Mycoe proved an outstanding centre back replacement for Anderson, but the vast majority of the action meant that Garforth were defending, even though Town substitute Mark Simpson's shot kissed the bar.

Brewers' replacement Nick Black forced Smith into a diving save with five minutes left but the one goal was enough to put Tadcaster back on top.

Team: Stevens, Barrett, Clayton, Milne, Mycoe, Jono Greening, Baker (Black 65), Beadle, Corner (Stewart 65), Josh Greening, Sellars. Unused substitutes: Armstrong, Murphy (gk), Conway.
