SECOND placed Thorpe United strengthened their position with a 3-0 win over Hamilton Panthers in York Minster Engineering League division two, writes Graham Ireton.

Matthew Howden and Martin Howson (2) scored for the Selby side.

Kirkbymoorside triumphed 6-1 over visitors Stamford Bridge.

It took half an hour before the home side got a grip on the game. The ball fell to Josh Butler at the edge of the box and he picked out the top corner to open the scoring. Kirkby doubled their lead on 30 minutes when Butler sent Alex Strickland away down the wing.

He crossed into the box for Aaron Rivis to pick out the bottom corner - giving keeper Darren Brandon no chance.

It was 3-0 four minutes later as Rivis scored the goal of the game. He collected the ball 40 yards out and casually lobbed it over the stranded Brandon. The fourth came on 55 minutes as Sarjo Cham slotted home.

Bridge pulled a goal back on 68 minutes with a tap-in from John Cavanagh but, five minutes later, the four goal margin was restored as Strickland smashed home. Cham then missed a penalty before, on 79 minutes, Rivis claimed his hat-trick when forcing the ball home from a Sean Walker header.

Olly Newby (2), Phil O’Reilly, Mark Willoughby and Rich Tinson were on target for Wilberfoss as they made it eight from eight in the league with a hard fought 5-4 win over Huby on bottomless ground.

Joe Cox struck four goals for Jorvik Blades but still ended up on the losing side as South Milford gained a 6-4 success.

Danny Phillips, Danny Wood and Jamie Kirby all found the net for Rufforth United as they gained a point from a 3-3 draw at fourth-placed Selby Olympia.

Jason Hogg and Josh Shepherd gave Civil Service a 2-0 half-time lead at Cawood but Peter McLoughlin struck twice to level the scores before the break. Civil Service pulled away to win 6-2 in the second period with four goals courtesy of Hogg and a Declan Richardson hat-trick.

The only game in division four saw Pollington win 6-1 at Wheldrake, for whom Ben Cook was on target.

Old Malton St Mary’s moved up to third in Reserve 'A' after holding leaders Huntington Rovers to a 2-2 draw.

A first half strike for Rovers by Ben Thompson was supplemented by a Lee Bunce effort, only for Old Malton to claw their way back into the game with two goals for a well deserved draw.

Tadcaster Magnets defeated Copmanthorpe 4-2. Oli Baron and Daniel Leach struck for Copmanthorpe.

In Reserve 'B', second placed Hemingbrough were defeated 5-2 by Pocklington Town. A Stuart Longbottom penalty gave Tockwith a 1-1 draw with Stamford Bridge, for whom Sam Wood hit the target.

The only game in Reserve 'C' saw Civil Service run riot against Cliffe. James Shaw and Matty Williams both bagged hat-tricks to add to a Mark Lund penalty and strikes from Joe Evans and Nick Dunlop as Civil Service scored nine without reply.
