YORK City academy coach Andy Phillips is launching a goalkeeper development centre for the Bootham Crescent club.

Phillips, who has just passed his UEFA B coaching license, will run the Minstermen’s goalkeeper development centre from York College on Monday nights.

Having worked with City’s academy net-minders over the last 12 months, Phillips will now be tasked with helping find future number ones for North Yorkshire’s only professional club.

Phillips also coaches the North Yorkshire FA Girls’ Centre of Excellence, Doncaster Rovers Belles and Scarborough Athletic’s youth team.

In the past, he played and coached in the USA for 25 years and, on the new partnership with City, Phillips said: “Knowing that the club endorse my goalkeeper coaching and what I am trying to achieve is a real boost for the goalkeeper school. It is really innovative of the club to allow me to become the only goalkeeper development centre for York City and shows the club’s commitment to developing talent in the local area.”

Phillips is planning to hold the goalkeeper development centre on other nights too, as a way to accommodate those who cannot make it along on Monday evenings.

A specialist goalkeeper camp will be staged, meanwhile, during the February half-term school holiday and, for further details, visit www.andyphillipsgoalkeeping.co.uk
