NEW EARSWICK 'A' picked up ten points as they beat Featherstone 'B' in Yorkshire League division two.

At home, Dave Clayden, Rod Walker, Brian Gray and Andrew Fothergill recovered from 5-0 down to 8-8 after ten ends. Trailing 16-12 with three left, they picked up a three and a four but still lost 20-19.

Bob Elliot, Dave Elcock, Colin Pickup and Mick Head scored consecutive fours to lead 8-4 after six ends. Tied at 9-9 after nine, New Earswick restricted Featherstone to one single in the next seven as they led 19-10 after 16.

The visitors responded with seven in three and were only two behind with two ends left before Earswick stretched out to win 22-17.

At Featherstone, Dave Sykes, Kevin Potter, Ralph Tiplady and Barry Johnson only dropped two twos in the first 12 ends against Pat McAfferty to lead 17-4 en route to a 24-13 win.

Graham Lockwood, Colin Ellis, Kevin Liddell and Bill Waldie picked up a four at the third on the way to a 7-4 lead but they lost 25-16.

New Earswick 'B' took 11 points against Selby 'B'.

John Harrison, Dave Toms, Dave Hutchinson and Brian Birch ground out a 16-14 victory, while Pat Inwood, Allister Domville Graham Bell and Gary Jones scored a six, four and three in the first seven ends and eventually won 32-14.

At Selby, Joe Barker, Brian Hutton, John Snowden and Vic Thompson trailed 17-5 after ten ends and lost 26-13.

In the game of the day, Vic Reed, Alwyn Anderson, Bob Barrett and Dick Osguthorpe won nine of the first 12 ends to lead 15-6. Selby won six of the next eight, including taking a five, to go 19-17 up with one end to go.

Earswick replied with a two to draw.

New Earswick Ladies could only score two points in defeat to Selby in the North Eastern Ladies League.

At Earswick, Doramy Bellwood, Denise Elliot, Lynn Page and Kath Sykes dropped a full house eight at the fifth but battled back to trail only 14-13 after 12. However, they then scored only three more singles and dropped a five at the 16th as they lost 26-16.

Margaret Pearson, Peggy Walker, Norma Davies and Majorie Watson were slowly outscored in a 23-13 defeat.

At Selby, Kay Hutchinson, Jackie Toms, Sally Domville and Monica Mogan fought back from 5-0 down to lead 13-11 but lost the next five ends as they spiralled to a 22-15 loss.

Margaret Moss, Gemma Broadhead, Carol Williams and Pat Walker trailed 6-0 but lost only three of the last 19 ends as they swept to a 30-13 victory.
