PUPILS at the All Star Football Academy will be doing things by the book during 2016 thanks to a new partnership with Your Move.

The estate agents have paid for a batch of brochures that will help young players, from the age of three to 15, further their football education.

Former York City footballer and England youth international Christian Fox started the academy 12 months ago and runs sessions from Poppleton United Football Club and Manor School.

More than 200 boys and girls now benefit from tuition of six qualified coaches and players have gone on to sign for York City, Sheffield United and Barnsley’s academies.

The new sponsorship will encourage the academy’s students to analyse their game.

Fox explained: “With Your Move's help, we’ve been able to produce player booklets which give each youngster a seasonal plan of what they will be learning every week.

“It details our DNA and the five areas we concentrate on as an academy which are who we are, the future player, how we coach, how we play and how we support.

"There are also questions for the players where they can reflect on what they have learned and we look at the social and psychological aspects of football too because, ultimately, we are coaching the children to become well-rounded human beings.”

Fox hopes to coach the under-15s – his eldest group of players – through to U19 level.

Futsal, meanwhile, is being incorporated into the academy’s programme and Fox also intends to expand a girls’ section that now boasts 30 players.

He added: “Girls football has exploded in popularity and we want to get teams at every age group to replicate what we are doing with the boys.”

All Star run coaching camps during the school holidays at additional venues, such as Huntington School and York Sport Village, and players from the U15 team are being encouraged to help run sessions.

Fixtures are also regularly organised against professional academies, including York, Sheffield United and Middlesbrough.
