CASTLEFORD are to bring predominantly a young side as expected to York tomorrow night (7.30pm) - but the line-up does include some Super League stars and two local favourites coming back to light up Bootham Crescent.

With the Tigers also meeting Super League derby rivals Wakefield in a friendly on Sunday, head coach Daryl Powell has named an 18-man squad comprising many of the club's under-19s to take on hosts York City Knights.

But Greg Minikin, who joined Cas from the Knights in the off-season after a Player of the Year double for the League One club last term, and Ash Robson, the highly-rated former York Acorn ARLC junior, are among them.

The Tigers also include Super League players Ryan Boyle, the ex-Salford prop, former Catalans front-rower Gadwin Springer, full-back Ryan Hampshire, and forward Will Maher, and other first-team squad men in Jy Hitchcock, Brandon Westerman and Kieran Gill.

Powell said: “This is a great opportunity for some of our younger players to mix in with senior members from our first-team squad and show what kind of potential they have.

"I will get to see every member of our squad play over this weekend which is a great lead-in as we come to the start of the Super League season.

"I have no doubt York will provide a stiff test, which is just what the players need at this time in the pre-season.”

As reported by The Press, a link-up with the Knights' class of 2016 for Minikin and Robson this year has not been ruled out, with dual-registration talks between the two clubs ongoing.

Tigers: from Adamson, Boyle, Cooke, Diskin, Dixon, Douglas, Fitzsimmons, Gill, Hampshire, Hitchcox, Maher, Million, Minikin, O’Neill, Robson, Sheehan, Springer, Westerman.
