CITY of York Ladies 1 picked up their seventh win in their last nine games when they beat Chester 2-1 in the North Hockey Women's Premier division.
They started out as much the strong side at the University of York, keeping possession within the Chester half but unable to finish the chances they created.
Chester put together a couple of breaks into the York half but any chances they had were cleared by the York defence and keeper Ella Deighton.
York’s first goal came when a push across the D from Katie Payne was misjudged by a Chester player and goalkeeper and ended up in the back of the goal.
City continued to press hard inn the second half and a quick free hit from outside the D, and some nice skills from Rebecca Birch, allowed her to slot home the second goal of the game with a reverse stick shot.
York wanted more goals but Chester turned up the pressure. With York receiving two green cards in quick succession, putting them down to nine men, Chester were able to get a goal back in the dying seconds of the game.
