CITY Of York Hockey Club Men's firsts collected yet another draw in the North Hockey League premier division as they played out a 3-3 stalemate at Huntington Stadium.

Both teams had drawn five of their nine games prior to the clash so it was no surprise the pair could not be split.

City went close early on but, against the run of play, the ball was flicked past Luke Brownlee in the York goal after a Formby short corner routine broke down.

In a very even game, Formby still led 2-0 at the break after a very well worked short corner routine beat the City defence and Brownlee.

City found it difficult to get into gear in the face of some agricultural Formby attacking but they made the breakthrough when, from another City short corner that Formby failed to deal with, Ben Bull was on hand to push the ball over the line.

A moment of madness saw Formby go 3-1 up.

An attacker collected the ball on the half-way line and waltzed past several City defenders before finishing with a flick.

York gave themselves hope, though, when Luke Ramli’s powerful through ball came back off the Formby keeper and Alex Cockram was on hand to touch the ball home.

With time running out, a prompt tackle from forward Ant Bull and quick thinking allowed Ramli to play another through ball to Cockram.

He beat his marker and played a vicious ball across goal which Dan Ellwood was able to knock past the Formby keeper.

City of York 2 suffered a 6-3 defeat at Driffield 1 in division two east.

The home side took the lead when they broke quickly from a 16 and a well taken reverse stick effort was fired home.

City had a glorious chance to equalise but the ball was cleared off the line with the keeper nowhere to be seen, and Driffield punished this minutes later as their captain found the corner from penalty corner.

It was three on the rebound but York pulled a goal back before the break when David Butchart got a touch on Alex Lake's ball in.

City came out fighting in the second half and Tim Lister's strong run and cross was converted by Rob Newton to put them right back in the game.

But a loose ball from a free hit was seized upon and, after a series of lucky breaks and deflections, the forward brilliantly finished to make it 4-2.

Driffield added a fifth before Lister pulled one back with two minutes to go.

In the dying seconds, a penalty stroke awarded to Driffield and the effort just beat Doyle.

City of York 3 suffered a frustrating afternoon as they lost 3-2 at Leeds University 1 in Yorkshire Hockey League division two.

They were immediately on the back foot after conceding a sloppy goal and, although York dominated the play, they couldn't capitalise.

The students went 2-0 up from a penalty corner but City gave themselves a lifeline with a minute to go until half-time when James Fitton was on hand to tap in at the back post.

York started the second half well and Rob Prentice spurned two golden opportunities to put them on level terms when put through with only the keeper to beat.

Eventually, Jonathan Kilmartin scored to level the game.

City spurned further chances and, with 90 seconds left, a scramble in the York D resulted in Leeds snatching all three points.

City of York 4 were 3-2 winners over Worksop 1 in division 2.

They took a 1-0 lead into half-time after an Ollie Sanderson short corner but they were caught twice on the break in the second half.

York had the better of the possession and goals from Henry Wilson and Danny Vaughan earned them victory.

A well contested game between City of York 5 and Driffield 1 ended in a 1-1 draw in division four north.

York took an early lead with their first response to Driffield's early possession - a well worked move finished well by Andy Kay - before being pegged back.

A one goal lead was overturned as City of York 7 lost 2-1 at home to Acomb.

Following a scoreless first half, York came out the stronger and went in front when Hamish Broadbent coolly slotted home a penalty flick won by Matt Besford.

Acomb responded quickly with an equaliser before finding the winning goal from a short corner.

City of York 8 found out why Harrogate 5 are runaway leaders of division six north as they were beaten 11-0 by a much fitter and slicker team.

York Badgers came out narrowly on top 1-0 in a hard fought game against Slazengers at home.

They started well with Cameron Mackay and Anna Good linking well in midfield to create some early opportunities and were unfortunate not to take the lead following good combinations between Holly Davies and Jack Allerton.

Cara Mackay kept Slazengers at bay with good saves and Lorna Rore and Heidi Fletcher were firm in defence.

York's pressure eventually brought reward with the only goal of the game.
