YORK City suffered a sixth straight defeat after going 3-2 down to Leyton Orient.

Goals from Mathieu Baudry and Jay Simpson put the O’s in the ascendancy at Brisbane Road.

A deflected effort from Vadaine Oliver in first-half stoppage time reduced the deficit and, after a Simpson strike midway through the second half, the City striker also claimed his second of the afternoon on 86 minutes but the visitors could not go on to force a late equaliser. Earlier, the hosts had almost forged ahead after just 19 seconds when midfielder Jack Payne’s thumping 25-yard drive smacked against Scott Flinders’ crossbar.

A weak Eddie Nolan header then set up Sammy Moore for a ten-yard half-volley that he lifted over before the City right-back kicked a Simpson effort off the line following Femi Ilesanmi’s mistake, The O’s went on to take the lead on 20 minutes as Baudry held off the challenge of George Swan to meet John Marquis’ right-wing corner with a ten-yard header that sailed over Flinders.

Ollie Palmer’s far-post header, meanwhile, from Frazer Shaw’s left-wing cross lacked the power to beat Flinders.

Ian Hendon’s men doubled their advantage, though, in the second minute of first-half added time after William Boyle was outmuscled in the penalty box by Palmer.

Having collected the loose ball, Marquis then waltzed far too easily through City’s right channel before crossing to the far post, where Simpson tapped in from a yard.

But the Minstermen pulled a goal back in the fourth minute of stoppage time when Oliver beat ex-City net-minder Alex Cisak with a deflected 20-yard drive after Bryn Morris’ edge-of-the- box attempt had been blocked. Within seconds of the restart, Simpson hooked a shot wide from 15 yards but he extended the O’s lead after Morris had fired over from the edge of the box following good combination play between James Berrett and Michael Coulson on the counter.

Given far too much space in the visitors’ penalty box on 64 minutes, Simpson drilled a 15-yard effort into Flinders’ bottom left-hand corner.

Oliver was denied a second goal on 73 minutes when his downward header, after Swan had won a high ball into the penalty box, was kept out brilliantly by Cisak low to his left.

But he did beat Cisak on 86 minutes, heading over the O’s keeper from seven yards after Berrett’s cross from the left byline.

Oliver and Emile Sinclair were then inches away from getting a vital touch on Morris’ inswinging free kick with the former also calling Cisak into action again with his head during added-on time.
