THE inclusive programme at New Earswick & District Indoor Bowls Club has seen them named as runners-up in the Bowls Development Alliance 2014/15 Love Fisher Brown Awards.

The club has about 70 disabled participants regularly attending various weekly activities at the club, including the Friday ‘Bowlsability’ daytime session.

This provides two rinks of indoor bowls, two short mats and a boccia court, while, in the summer months, table tennis, badminton, new age kurling and other sports are offered.

Launched in October 2014, the Love Fisher Brown Awards set out to identify and reward organisations providing participation opportunities for disabled bowlers.

Paul Humphries, the BDA's development manager, presented an award to club president Gordon Fratson and chairman Ray Blogg.

They said: "The club is proud to be one of the most inclusive clubs in the country. We have worked in partnership with organisations including the Special Olympics, Askham Bryan College, Alzheimer’s Society, NHS, and many more over the past few years to give as many people as possible the opportunity to try bowls and other sports."
