YORK City Knights are looking to bring former Wakefield academy starlet Jack Anderson back to his home city.

Anderson, 21, who starred as a junior for York Acorn ARLC, has been granted a trial by the Knights on his return from a year in Australia just as the club begin pre-season.

The strapping six-foot loose-forward or stand-off, who had a spell in Hull's youth ranks before signing for Wakefield, turned out for the Wildcats against Leeds Rhinos in a first-team friendly ahead of the 2014 season but was unable to break onto the Super League scene.

A former England youth international, he has spent the past year down under and now gets an opportunity with his home-town club.

Knights boss James Ford said: "I'm very keen to give local boys the chance to progress in the game."

Former Millthorpe School and York College student Anderson started out at Acorn – where his dad, Mick, is a coach – aged six. He was also an excellent footballer and was on York City's books as a youngster before focusing on rugby aged 13.

The Knights had kept tabs on Anderson during his time at Wakefield, with then head coach Gary Thornton trying to bring him to Huntington Stadium on loan in 2014.
