YORK had a mixed time in the National Over-60s team events as their 'A' team went through in the double rinks, beating Doncaster, while the 'B' team lost to Hornsea.

The ladies 'B' team, meanwhile, lost to Scarborough in the Mason Trophy.

York 'A' faced an uphill battle as they trailed 27-13 after ten ends with Dudley Williams, Gordon Walker, Graham Instone and Phil Parsons going from 9-5 ahead to 12-9 down.

But they responded well, scoring 19 shots, which included a seven, over the following five ends to lead 28-12 and make the aggregate score at that time 37-33.

Away, Tony Hopcutt, Malcolm Harrison, Tex Stevens and Graham Brooke were 21-9 down but did well by winning their last four ends to make the final score 21-17, while at home Parsons' side ended up with a creditable 32-18 victory.

This put the team through to a game against Featherstone in the next round.

York 'B' put in a great performance against a strong Hornsea team but were beaten 47-32.

Away, John Butler, Dennis Walls, Ken Robinson and Ray Clark led 8-5 after eight ends before the game turned to the home side as they won all but four of the remaining ends to win 34-12.

In York, Harley Wenham, Ron Munro, Dave Clayton and Alan Clapham had a tough opening spell as they trailed 9-2 but they slowly clawed away at the deficit, winning all but two of the remaining 12 ends and taking the lead for the first time in the game on the 19th when they made the score 14-13. They finished with an impressive 20-13 victory.

In the Mason Trophy, York 'B' lost their way between the fifth and tenth ends - going from 10-9 down and well in the contest to 29-11 down.

Away, Audrey Micklethwaite, Joan Knight, Pat Potter and Sheila Turpin went from 6-4 ahead to 21-7 behind on their way to a 25-15 defeat.

At home, Brenda Love, Jenny Darrell, Maureen Robinson and Pat Bracken were 13-3 down after eight ends but came back well to level at 21-21 with one end to play.

However, the aggregate score had run away and they dropped a four on the last to give Scarborough a 50-36 victory overall.

Today, starting at 12.30pm, York’s ladies are in action when they take on Lincoln in the Vivienne Trophy, while tomorrow at noon, York Vikings complete their Yorkshire Over-55s League division one game against Redcar.

York have a busy weekend with their ladies in Yetton Trophy action against Selby on Saturday, the same time as the men look to retain top spot in division one when they play North Cave. Their 'B' will look to keep their unbeaten run going as they play Hornsea 'B' in the third division. All three games start at noon.

Then on Sunday, at 11am, the club are in action in the Egham Trophy as they take on Scarborough.
