CARETAKER boss Richard Cresswell doesn't want to focus anywhere but on Saturday's Sky Bet League Two clash at Crawley Town.

The man who has taken over from Russ Wilcox in the York City hotseat said he could not look "too far in advance" when quizzed on whether he wanted the top job at the Minstermen on a permanent basis.

Having spent two days on the training pitch with the squad, the 38-year-old - who enjoyed two spells with the club as a player - said he had seen a "great reaction" from the players as City bid to pick up their first league win in ten matches when they travel to the Broadfield Stadium.

And although he admitted the last few days had been a whirlwind, Cresswell said he had found being in charge an "enjoyable" experience.

Stressing he would be "putting everything" into the role at the club he loves, he explained: "It has been very different. I have to put on record that I have had the opportunity to work with Russ Wilcox and John Schofield over the last six months and, I must say, they are fantastic people.

"It didn't work out for them the way they would have liked but I thoroughly enjoyed working with them and I know they will be back in the game sooner rather than later.

"The way I look at it, whether it is one game or five games - or as long as the board of directors decide - I want to do it my way. I am preparing right with Jonathan Greening this week.

"We are looking forward to the game at Crawley."

With City inviting applications for the vacant manager's role, Cresswell added when asked whether he wanted the job: "Let's just take one step at a time. That's important. I can't look too far in advance. We have got the game on Saturday and it is against a tough team.

"I have enjoyed preparing the players and making sure the schedule is right. What I would say is that I love the club. Everyone knows it is very close to my heart. I want to help in any way I can. I will be putting everything into it while I am in the hotseat.

"It has been a pretty tough few weeks with all the rumours and it is a results-based industry.

"It is mine and Jonathan's job to pick the lads up after what's happened. We have had a great reaction from them. We have had a quality couple of days in training and they have been buzzing around the place and training at a high tempo and that's how I want my teams to play.

"It has been enjoyable. It has been hard work but we are getting the right backing."

Cresswell has secured his first addition after bringing in Middlesbrough midfielder Bryn Morris on a month's loan.

The 19-year-old goes into the squad for the Crawley game having enjoyed a spell this season with League One outfit Coventry City.

Hartlepool-born Morris began his career on Teesside and quickly progressed through the ranks, becoming the third youngest player to turn out for the club when, at 16 years and 254 days, he took to the pitch in an FA Cup tie in January 2013.

Cresswell said of the youngster: "The club has identified him quite a long time ago and we have kept an eye on him. Bryn is an exciting player who has come through and has good pedigree at Middlesbrough's academy.

"He found himself on loan at Coventry. He didn't manage to break into the first team and it gave us an opportunity to bring him back up north.

"He's an exciting player and a great technical player."
