YORK City Knights' first opponents when they finally move into Bootham Crescent will be Hull FC or Castleford.

The Knights have agreed pre-season friendlies against the Super League pair on dates in January that are to be confirmed.

It is thought one of the games will be played over the New Year weekend, bringing back the traditional fixture from the old winter season programme.

York City - whose ground will become the Knights' home next year as part of the community stadium scheme, albeit 12 months later than planned - are away that weekend.

The Knights will keep the gate receipts from the games, with the Castleford match likely to form part of the deal - albeit as yet unconfirmed - that will see York centre Greg Minikin move to Wheldon Road.

Meanwhile, tickets appear set to sell out for the Knights sportsman's dinner in January in which England and Leeds great Jamie Peacock will be the guest speaker.

The event is at the Park Inn, York, on Friday, January 29. Tickets cost £35 or £320 for a table of ten and are available from the club on 01904 767404. Peacock, who turns 38 in December, hangs up his boots after Saturday's Super League Grand Final against Wigan to end a stellar career.
