IT'S not every apprentice who manages to secure a Group 3 triumph, but North Yorkshire's Jack Garritty achieved just that at Ascot on Saturday when winning the Bengough Stakes on Eastern Impact, trained by his Malton boss, Richard Fahey.

Garritty heads to Pontefract today with every chance of adding to his growing tally of winners aboard Ormskirk, also trained by Fahey, who had three Saturday winners, in the DEM Window Solutions Nursery Handicap.

The two-year-old came good in handsome style at Catterick three weeks ago and looks the sort who can make his mark in handicap company.

In a race in which Fahey also saddles Wolverhampton winner Penwortham, who is stepping up to six furlongs, Ormskirk could have been better drawn than in stall ten, but he is napped to overcome his wide berth and provide Garritty with another success in his quest to become this season's champion apprentice. He is currently in second place, in hot pursuit of Tom Marquand, who is in action at Windsor this afternoon.

William Buick, in action at Longchamp yesterday, looks the jockey to follow at Pontefract. He heads north with good prospects of completing a treble, highlighted success in the featured £40 totepool Package On 19th October Handicap on Lovely Memory.

Godolphin's lightly-raced three-year-old made a decisive winning reappearance at Chelmsford last month. Lovely Memory now makes the step into handicap company but remains unexposed and is an interesting runner.

Buick kicks-off the afternoon aboard Change The Game in the Racing UK Sky Channel 432 Maiden Stakes.

Narrowly denied after being sent off favourite on his debut at Wolverhampton a couple of weeks ago, Change The Game will have learned plenty that day and now steps up further in distance.

Amazing Speed can be another Buick winner in the concluding Buy Tour 2016 Annual Badge Today Maiden Stakes.

Although the three-year-old has had plenty of chances to open his account and has not yet done so, he has run some creditable races and has shown a decent level of ability. He deserves one more chance.

Also worth noting at Pontefract are recent winners Hurry Home Poppa (3.05) in the staying test and Ivors Involvement (4.15), the mount of Silvestre de Sousa.

Over the sticks at Market Rasen, Lincoln County should take plenty of beating in the opening 32Red Casino Novices' Hurdle.

Trained by John Ferguson, who has a formidable bunch of jumpers, the gelding ran out a ten lengths winner of a bumper at Newton Abbot on his latest start. He looks likely to develop into a useful hurdler.

Oh Land Abloom, who is a regular at this Lincolnshire course, looks sure to go well in the £10 Free Bet At 32Red.com Handicap Hurdle.

A winner here in April, Oh Land Abloom has since twice finished runner-up on this course. He deserves another winning turn on behalf of trainer Neil King and jockey Trevor Whelan.

Peter Bowen had a double at this venue a couple of weeks ago and the trainer can land another winner with Alf 'N' Dor in the 32Red on The App Store National Hunt Flat Race.

The four-year-old was clearly expected to fare well on his debut here as he was sent off favourite before finishing a close-up fifth. He has since been allowed to mature over the summer months and should now be ready to go again. He will be partnered by the trainer's son, Sean Bowen, last season's top conditional rider.
