BRAVE SPARTACUS, who jumped for fun and ran his rivals ragged at Market Rasen six weeks ago when winning the valuable Betfair Summer Plate, aims to do so again at Southwell this afternoon after switching from fences to hurdles.

Keith Reveley produced his gelding in tremendous form to bag one of the summer's big jumping prizes last time, but the handicapper has responded by raising Brave Spartacus a whopping 10lb over fences.

It is, however, a little different over hurdles and the nine-year-old is able to race off a mark of 130 here, which is 15lb lower than his elevated chasing mark.

A winner of three of his 16 starts over hurdles, Brave Spartacus can add to his tally today in the hands of trainer's son James Reveley, who knows him so well.

BALLYBOGEY can get punters at Southwell off to a good start in the SIS Handicap Chase.

Trained by Charles Pogson, who enjoys plenty of success at this, his local venue, Ballybogey scored over this course and distance in June.

He has since finished a respectable third at Uttoxeter and warrants respect here. Regular rider Adam Pogson, the trainer's son, has the mount.

INDIAN STREAM may prove the answer to the Southwell Racecourse Beer Festival 12th December Novices' Chase.

A winner on his chasing bow at Worcester, the six-year-old – trained by Neil Mulholland – has since finished a staying-on third on this course.

This step up to three miles should be much better suited to this strong galloper, who can return to winning ways.

On the Flat at Bath, Tom Marquand – who is locked together with North Yorkshire-based Jack Garritty at the head of the apprentice championship – can enjoy a productive afternoon.

Marquand, who is in only his first season, is undoubtedly the apprentice 'find' of 2015.

He is fancied to score on Devonshire Place, Dusty Blue and Zaria who is chasing a four-timer in the Chronicle Business Awards Handicap over a mile.

Trained by Richard Price, ZARIA has rattled-up a hat-trick of wins at Chepstow. This is a totally different track but Zaria is in such excellent form that it is difficult to escape her claims, especially with Marquand claiming his invaluable 5lb allowance.

DEVONSHIRE PLACE, trained by Roger Charlton, figures on a handy mark in the EBF Stallions Breeding Winners Fillies' Handicap and is awarded the nap vote.

Although she was a beaten favourite last time at Newmarket when finishing fourth, she was far from disgraced. Previously, she had finished a close-up second at Doncaster. A race will surely come her way shortly and opportunity could come knocking here.

Marquand can also hit the target on DUSTY BLUE in the University & Literary Club Apprentice Training Series Handicap. Tony Carroll's three-year-old duly delivered over this course and distance 11 days ago. An encore could well be on the cards.

SHADEN looks interesting in the Brandon Trust European Breeders' Fund Novice Stakes.

Trainer Lady Cecil retires at the end of the season but Shaden is doing her proud. She has won two of her three starts, at Nottingham and Ffos Las. There could be more to come from this daughter of Kodiac, who will have the services of Jamie Spencer.

Spencer will also be aboard FERNGROVE in the second division Ultimate Finance Groups Handicap.

The four-year-old was a beaten favourite on his comeback outing at Catterick when crossing swords with the evergreen veteran Dhualar Dhar. He is worth the chance to go one better.
