BEN Godfrey’s emergence as a credible first-team contender at York City has led to fellow midfielder Tom Platt rejoining Harrogate Town on loan.

The 17-year-old youth-team captain made his full debut during last week’s 1-0 home win over Yeovil and also enjoyed a 71st-minute outing at Premier League Swansea in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday night.

Platt, 21, did not make the bench for that game and has returned to Harrogate, for whom he scored eight goals in 21 games during previous loan spells in 2012 and 2013.

The initial agreement is for one month and not three, as reported on Harrogate’s official website, with City boss Russ Wilcox explaining: “Tom wants to play football and the opportunities for him to do that with us are not there at the moment.

“He knows that and he's a great kid who wants to play some games. He will get that with Harrogate having two games in three days now.

“He's gone for a month initially and, then, we'll have a look at it again and see where we go from there. He's perhaps not kicked on as much as I would have wanted since last season, but Ben Godfrey has also been a find and stepped up to the mark.”

Former Northern Ireland international Josh Carson, meanwhile, remains firmly in Wilcox’s plans despite still waiting for his first taste of Sky Bet League Two action this term.

“It's hard to say when Josh will get more game time because you manage things from one fixture to the next and during matches but, if he gets on the pitch, I'm sure he will perform well and he will be needed this season,” Wilcox pointed out.

“He got 20 minutes at Swansea and that was a bit of a reward for being a good pro in terms of working hard and doing the right things in terms of extra training.”

Wilcox added, meanwhile, that he has no current plans to bolster his ranks before the transfer window for permanent signings closes on Tuesday but will not rule out any potential business either.

He said: “We're not looking to bring anybody in at the moment and there's nothing to report as yet, but we're always looking and situations can change quickly.”
