SELBY sealed promotion to division one of the Hunters York & District Senior Cricket League with a six-wicket win over third-placed Londesborough Park.

The victory, their 13th of the division two north season, extended the gap between the two sides to 133 points with just four games to go.

Alex Bowden (5-23) and Michael Smales (3-21) combined to bowl Park out for 110.

It took the hosts just 19 overs to secure the win they needed for promotion with Smales (37) and Gareth Roberts (33) both in the runs.

Just 36 points separate Harrogate in second and Sheriff Hutton Bridge in sixth in the battle for the second promotion spot.

Duncombe Park boosted their chances with a narrow 15-run success over Clifton Alliance. Ben Leckenby (55) and Barry Wheldon (42) both impressed as Park reached 187-8.

Alliance were in control early on with the in-form Andy Parkinson (66) leading the charge. His dismissal led to a collapse as Dean Coote (3-36) and Peter Kent (4-37) ripped through the visitors' middle order.

A must-win game for both York and Sheriff Hutton Bridge ended in a draw as neither side could gain the vital maximum points required to bang on the promotion door.

Ollie Scurry (69) and Dave Patmore (51) both struck half-centuries for York who posted a competitive 207-5. Bridge limped to 119-6 to secure a handful of points.

Ripon were left frustrated by lowly Hovingham as they were forced to settle for a winning draw.

Promotion-chasing Harrogate survived a huge scare to secure a share of the spoils against plucky Thirsk.

They were bowled out for a paltry 101 after Stuart Christon collected 4-27. With the visitors cruising, and Mark Cook unbeaten on 46, the heavens opened and heavy rain brought a stop to the game with the scores level.

After a prolonged break, the umpires decided that no further play was possible and the game would end a draw.

The game between Easingwold and Acomb was also ruined by the weather.
