STRENSALL dramatically ended Racquet 2's 100 per cent winning record in Tyke Petroleum Men's Tennis League division eight.

With their best team in action, Strensall took all three first round points and 23 games against the runaway division eight leaders and two further rounds of 20-16 meant the Harrogatians went home with very little change.

Andy Clayton and Adrian Walker mustered the only consolation with two 7-5 rubbers, while James Whitwell and Daniel Simmonite dominated for Strensall with 3-25.

With a match in hand, Strensall are looking to pinch the silverware this year.

Poppleton 2 regained the lead in division three after a pendulum of a match at Sutton-on-Derwent.

The visitors started more assuredly on the grass, racking up a comfortable first round lead only for Sutton to roar back and square the match in round two.

Captain Dave Jones and Jon Fisher’s final round 9-3 swung the result back in Popp 2’s favour, taking them to the top.

Ed Martin and Dave Rogers, with 3-28, were the week’s top guns as Rowntree Park 2 enjoyed their best ever level two result. Their 65 games against visiting Wetherby won them ten points and takes them up to fourth - and a division two berth for next season.

Boston Spa cashed in a game in hand to slash Bishopthorpe’s lead at the top of division four to just 15 points.

Spa captain Jordan Gregory scored a maximum and 27 games with Dave Aspland at bottom team York 4, for whom Joe Hall and Jack Lewis showed mettle with 1½ points and 18 of their team’s 39 games won.

Spa have yet another two matches in hand over the leaders.

Sheriff Hutton have put themselves in contention for promotion from division six, with a whitewash of Selby, who arrived four-handed.

Boston Spa 2 still have an outside chance of elevation after a narrow escape at home to bottom club Wheldrake. Jason Watson and Colin Brooks were unbeatable for the visitors who led after two rounds, but could only muster a half point in the last.

Dave Gamble and Richie Norris showed tremendous fight in division seven, to win three points and 23 games for Pocklington at Heworth 2. Pock have now taken nine points from their last two matches.

Glen Bodilly continued his good form for David Lloyd 3, scoring 2-21 with Chris Stephenson, despite Knaresborough 2 winning the match - topped by 3-27 from Andy and Matt Walton.
