A CENTURY from York's Ryan McKendry helped set up a 24-run victory over Doncaster Town in the Solly Sports Yorkshire ECB County Premier Cricket League.

The Clifton Park hosts made 300-7 from 55 overs having won the toss, and Doncaster were all out for 276.

York suffered an early setback when opener Adam Whatley was bowled by Graeme Attenborough in the fourth over, but a stand of 88 between Simon Lambert and Liam McKendry got them back on track.

The partnership was broken when Lambert, having made a cautious 39, was caught at square leg in Felix Odell’s opening over.

Another bowling change paid dividends when Bradley Heaps had McKendry (52) caught at mid-wicket, the batsmen having just reached a his third half-century of the season.

Ryan McKendry’s fourth-wicket partnership of 125 with Alex Collins came at exactly a run a ball to pave the way for a commanding total.

Opening bowler Lewis Brown returned finished with figures of 4-57 as York sought to boost their total.

Collins went first when, having brought up his half-century with a six over extra cover, he failed to clear the fielder at mid-on and was caught for 53.

McKendry’s second century this season came off 103 balls with 11 fours and a six, and he was annoyed at being bowled for 102 despite having taken the side to 277-5.

Chris Booth marked his home league debut with a perfect cameo innings, striking 27 off 18 balls, including 16 from the penultimate over.

He was one of two wickets to fall in the last over as Brown bowled Tom Brooks and then had Booth caught at long-on.

Doncaster’s opening pair Gareth Cox and Rhys Mann came into the match on the back of a double century stand the previous week, but Whatley bowled Mann in his fourth over and followed that in his next by trapping James Davies lbw.

Stuart Guy joined Cox to add 52 from the next eight overs but, with the score on 85, Cox (44) was bowled by Ryan McKendry.

Two short interruptions for rain left York hampered by a wet ball and Guy took full advantage, moving from 50 to 93 in only 23 balls.

Whatley returned for a second spell and picked up the vital wicket of Guy who was caught on the square leg boundary by Booth when the batting side were in the ascendancy.

Tom Pringle had a hand in each of the next three wickets, firstly catching Attenborough to give Lambert the first of two wickets, and then completing the run out from Collins' throw as Alex Gosney failed to regain his ground having slipped while backing up.

The third contribution came ten overs later when he bowled Luke Townsend (22), but not before a partnership of 49 with Odell had got Town within sight of victory with 54 needed off 48 balls.

Odell reduced the target to 26 from 25 but his departure, to an outstanding diving catch on the run by Whatley at long on, signalled the beginning of the end as the final two wickets fell for the addition of only one further run.

Pringle had Brown stumped and was again in the action to gather Chris Burn’s throw as confusion between the final pair resulted in a run out.
