GARETH Adams' unbeaten debut for York saw Rowntree Park suffer their first Tyke Petroleum Men's League defeat since last August.

The result blew the first division title race wide open as the winning streak of reigning champions Park was brought to an end as Adams was paired with Pete Hall to good effect.

Poppleton, meanwhile, proved too strong for David Lloyd with the talented Liam Earnshaw and his 16 year-old brother André - a quarter-finalist in last month’s City of Manchester Open - both to the fore.

Partnering Nick Turnbull and James Silson, the siblings were unbeatable, scoring a total of five points and 45 games in a 57-51 win.

Ben Storey and Phil Langley were the week's top scorers with 33 games in a 12-point romp for Wigginton at division three champions Knaresborough.

Steve Duree and Phil Bremner's 3-26 was the sole return for Sherburn against visiting Poppleton 2.

With two pairs ending unbeaten at home, Academy 2 triumphed 10-2 in division six against Sutton-on-Derwent 2.

In division four, Appleton Roebuck 1 captain Gary Payne and Ed Ziegler were the only pair to win all three rubbers against Bishopthorpe.

A rousing return to Rufforth for Paul Yoward saw him bundle maximum points and 26 games with captain Andy Ivel, to beat fellow strugglers Appleton Roebuck 2.
