YORK Cricket Club prevailed in a run-fest against Doncaster Town in the Solly Sports Yorkshire League Cup.

The Clifton Parkers crept home by 15 runs in a game at Town Fields, which saw more than 660 scored, to set up a home semi-final against traditional rivals Barnsley.

Skipper Nick Kay won the toss and elected to bat.

Adam Whatley and Simon Lambert came to the crease and the former immediately set about the Doncaster bowling. He would smash 73 runs, off 46 balls, with ten fours and two sixes as the pair put on a century partnership.

Whatley was bowled by Stuart Guy in the 14th over but and Chris Booth came in and scored at a run a ball as he made 37.

Anchoring the innings was Lambert. By the time he became the fourth wicket to fall, having scored 79 off 100 balls with three fours, York had moved on to 242.

By that time, Ryan McKendry was at the crease and continuing to lay waste to the Town bowlers. His 68 not out, with seven fours, was achieved at a run a ball and meant York completed their 50 overs having scored 339-6.

Charlie Elliot's 32 from 25 balls ensured they would finish with a flourish.

On a wicket clearly made for batting, Doncaster enjoyed similar joy with the willow. They also began with a century stand, before Felix Odell became the first Doncaster wicket to fall with the score on 105 - clean bowled by Ryan McKendry.

When Guy went with the score on 179 after 24 overs, the home side looked well on their way to make a significant challenge to York's total. But the key wicket fell almost immediately afterwards.

Gareth Cox had smacked 15 fours in his total of 94, from 79 balls, but he was undone by Chris Burn - his delivery caught by vice-captain Tom Pringle. Although Doncaster would reach 324, wickets fell regularly.

Only Luke Townsend (45) provided any real resistance as Whatley 2-59, Burn 2-61 and Lambert 2-49 bowled well to keep Doncaster at bay.
