CLIFFE are in front in division eight of the IT Sports Mixed Tennis League by only games difference with the top four clubs all locked together on the same number of points.

Cliffe’s Bruce Parker and Kelly Holmes proved just too strong for Wigginton, winning 27 games, and kept their club just ahead of Tollerton.

The latter travelled to Tadcaster and unbeaten Robert Brech and Ed Hope sealed the win with a final 10-2 score line.

Heworth are third after a good win against Fulford, but previous leaders Bishopthorpe drop to fourth after Appleton Roebuck’s James Pittaway and Anna Dawkes finished with an 11-1 success.

There is no change in division one with both promoted clubs now in the relegation places after York’s heavy defeat of Wetherby Castlegarth and York seconds got the better of Wigginton’s second string.

Dunnington are in third place after beating Fulford, led by Alex McLean and Karen Mitchell.

All change in division two is bringing a split in the league table. Four teams, led by David Lloyd, are contesting the promotion places and a gap of only two points covers the bottom sides.

David McKenzie-Jones and Elaine Hilton started with an 11-1 win for David Lloyd as they beat previous leaders York after beating Heworth by just two games the previous week.

A final 11-1 success by Richard Cranidge and Anne Jackson saw York snatch a point as they drew with Rufforth to stay in second place. Poppleton have slipped to fourth after losing to Bishopthorpe and ending up on the wrong side of a 55-53 score line against Rufforth.

Despite the best efforts of Cliffe’s Luke Crowther and Kate Reader, Bubwith went home with the points and stay top of division three.

Dunnington are still second but now have Sherburn just two points behind them after they lost 55-53 to Appleton Roebuck. Sherburn saw off Stillington.

Division four looks like it will go down to the wire at both the top and bottom ends of the table.

Copmanthorpe took over at the top with Johnny Kay and Laura Atkinson proving unbeatable with wins against Fulford and Wilberfoss. Pat Woodward and Michelle Hall won 25 games for Riccall but they still found themselves on the losing side against a Dunnington team who are now second.

Wetherby Castlegarth still top division five after their encounter with Appleton Roebuck, even though they only went home with one point.

A 28 game haul from James Chambers and Lisa Debenham ensured New Earswick went back to the top of division seven with a comfortable win against Wheldrake.

New Earswick top division nine with Dave Lattimer and Nicky John winning 31 games after their victory at Poppleton. Rufforth are closing in on one of the promotion spots after Paul Yoward and Carole Withers led their side to the points at Poppleton and 29 games from Will and Christine Edmond saw off the challenge from Cliffe.

Two wins from Wilberfoss sees them as front runners in division ten. The week’s top scorers, Dan Jacques and Maxine Bailey with 34 games, saw off the challenge of Sutton on Derwent and then a determined Bishopthorpe.
