MISS VAN GOGH, disqualified after winning narrowly at Hamilton last week, makes a quick reappearance at Ripon this evening as she seeks rapid compensation.

Trained at Malton by Richard Fahey, the three-year-old is partly-owned by Terry Dyson, the former Spurs striker from the 1960's, who has strong links with the Malton area and who is the uncle of top golfer Simon Dyson.

Miss Van Gogh gained a slender victory a week ago in Scotland but she hung left in the closing stages, interfering with the runner-up Lil Sophella, who was duly awarded the race in the stewards' room.

Rather than wait for Miss Van Gogh to be treated like a winner by the handicapper and see her rating rise from Saturday onwards, Fahey has elected to run her again off her original mark.

It may be that this race will come a little too quickly for her but if she is in the same form as she was at Hamilton, she should take plenty of beating in the Euro Audit UK 30th Anniversary Handicap. Tony Hamilton takes over in the saddle.

David O'Meara has also planned a quick reappearance for SNOW CLOUD, who lines-up in the Ripon Farm Services Handicap.

The three-year-old won in convincing fashion at Redcar last week and looks capable of defying a 6lb penalty in the hands of Sam James, deputising for stable jockey Danny Tudhope, who suffered a broken hand in a fall at Catterick last Friday and now looks as though he will struggle to be back in time for Royal Ascot later this month.

The £12,000 Directors Cup is the feature race at Ripon and Tim Easterby is fancied to hold the whip hand with nap selection SEE THE SUN, the mount of David Allan.

A good sixth on his reappearance on this course, See The Sun could finish only seventh when made favourite on his next outing at York's Dante Festival. That, though, was a very hot race and from a reasonable draw in this six-furlong dash, he is expected to be in the thick of the action.

North Yorkshire trainer Micky Hammond can do no wrong at present and the Middleham-based handler has good prospects of adding to his growing tally of winners with POLITBUREAU in the Ladies Day 18th June Book Now Handicap.

Hammond has placed the gelding, previously trained by Mick Easterby, to win two of his three races this season. Politbureau may not be finished yet.

Andrea Atzeni, who takes the mount on Elm Park in Saturday's Investec Derby at Epsom, journeys to Ripon to team-up with Argus in the SIS Live Maiden Stakes.

Although an unplaced favourite on his debut, the Ralph Beckett-trained colt can surely do a whole lot better with that experience under his belt.

Atzeni will also be in action at the afternoon meeting at Nottingham, where the £42,000 British Stallion Studs totepool Nottinghamshire Oaks takes pride of place.

This ten-furlong event has attracted a useful field and the pick of the runners may well be Pleasant Valley, trained by Luca Cumani and a winner on her reappearance at Pontefract, where she justified favouritism by a wide margin.

She faces a much stiffer task this time but Pleasant Valley looks the type to improve as the season unfolds and is fancied to come out on top. Adam Kirby rides.

Deep Blue Sea gets the vote in the EBF Stallions Bet totequadpot Fillies' Handicap.

A Yarmouth winner last season, Anthony Carson's three-year-old was a well fancied favourite to make a successful reappearance at Newmarket last month but was narrowly beaten into second place. She has every chance of going one better here in the hands of Frankie Dettori, who will be aboard the favourite Golden Horn, winner of last month's Dante Stakes at York, in Saturday's Derby.

Also worthy of attention at Nottingham are the William Haggas-trained newcomer Emerald Bay (2.20), a nicely-bred filly, and Bletchley Park (4.50), who should relish the step up in trip after staying on well over shorter at Haydock last time.
