GRAND National-winning jockey Graham Lee has been nothing short of a revelation since switching from jumps to Flat and can play a starring role at Thirsk this afternoon.

Lee, who rode more than 1,000 winners before switching to the summer game, and amassed a long list of major triumphs over jumps, is fancied to score on Thesme and Choc’a’moca.

The latter is trained by Paul Midgley and looks to be running into form. Not beaten far at Pontefract on his penultimate start, the sprinter has since met trouble in running before finishing fifth at Beverley over five furlongs.

Today’s step up to six furlongs is fancied to suit Choc’a’moca, who won at this course and at Redcar last season. He can resume winning ways in the Thirsk Next Meeting Monday 8th June Handicap (division one).

In the second division, it would be unwise to overlook the claims of Mick Easterby’s Iggy, winner of Choc’a’moca’s Pontefract race and far from disgraced since on rain-softened ground at Nottingham. Nathan Evans, who claims a valuable 7lb, again has the mount.

Lee’s booking by Nigel Tinkler for Thesme in the Racing UK Anywhere Available Now Maiden Stakes over five furlongs looks significant.

A speedily-bred filly, she was too keen and green on her debut at Newcastle, but still managed to show signs of ability.

If she has learned from that experience and races more professionally this time, a bold show is likely.

Norton trainer Ollie Pears complicates matters in the Bet With Your Racing UK App Handicap by saddling both Studio Star and Black Pudding.

Both horses have similar profiles, but Black Pudding is a previous winner over this distance of six furlongs and the way he finished off over the minimum distance when fourth on his latest start suggests the step back up in trip will suit. Jake Butterfield has the mount.

The £8,000 New Racing UK Android App Handicap is the richest race on the card and Norton trainer Julie Camacho has sound claims with My Single Malt, the mount of smart apprentice Joe Doyle.

A winner at Chester and Wolverhampton last season, My Single Malt ran creditably on his recent comeback outing back at Chester and should strip fitter as a result today.

Tim Easterby is bringing Mystic Miraaj along quietly and the three-year-old is selected to follow-up his recent Newcastle success, despite a poor draw.

Mystic Miraaj fulfilled the promise he had shown at Redcar last month at Newcastle when winning comfortably, despite idling near the finish. The downside to Mystic Miraaj is that he’s drawn in stall 13 today.

Bizarrely, the only horse on his outside is Make On Madam, who finished second to him at Newcastle and is now set to meet him on slightly better terms.

At Hamilton, Im Dapper Too may be able to step up on his opening success at Newcastle a fortnight ago.

Trainer John Davies felt there were more to come from the gelding after his latest success which came on only his sixth career start. PJ McDonald again has the mount.

Karl Burke saddles London Protocol in the opening Highland Spring Water Mandora Maiden Auction Stakes and the colt is napped to come out on top under Ben Curtis.

The juvenile showed definite signs of ability when third at Redcar on his recent debut at Redcar, where he was doing all his best work late on after taking time for the penny to drop. He should have benefited from that.

Thirsk today: 2.00 Signoret, 2.30 Black Pudding, 3.00 Thesme, 3.30 Rochambeau, 4.05 My Single Malt, 4.40 Mystic Miraaj, 5.15 Choc’a’moca, 5.45 Iggy.

Hamilton today: 2.10 London Protocol (NAP), 2.40 Lothair, 3.10 New Lease Of Life, 3.40 Im Dapper Too, 4.15 Lil Sophella, 4.50 Remember Rocky, 5.25 Secret Lightning.

Today’s other meetings: Cartmel, Kempton and Newton Abbot.
