ROWNTREE Park opened the defence of their Tyke Petroleum Men’s Tennis League division one title by crushing division two champions Dunnington 77-31 for a maximum 12 points.

Pacesetters Poppleton notched their second success, this time against a Starbeck side promoted through the play-offs.

Jasper Jacobs debuted for Starbeck, scoring 1½ points.

Only Alex Wilkins and Stuart Gentle could prise any points out of David Lloyd for division three champions Knaresborough.

Paul Ruff and Govind Baker were the first duo this season to claim a point from Bubwith.

The two supremos paired up in Fulford’s seconds to beat Bubwith captain Rob Jackson and Liam Moore 11-1, denying the division two runaways their second 12-pointer in a row.

With their stars at the Ilkley Open, four-handed Harlow conceded a near walkover to Wigginton 2.

Ian Sadler and Ian MacAulay, with 3-25, helped take an important match for Rowntree Park 2 at home to Fulford 1 55-53, winning their team a generous eight points and keeping them ahead in division three.

A superb shift from Los brothers Max and Zak secured a first win for Sutton-on-Derwent at Sherburn, whose captain Steve Duree was away in Madrid watching Andy Murray in action.

Academy put their division three eggs in one basket to pip Poppleton 2.

Mat Parry and Rich Bancroft hit a maximum with 3-27 as Academy narrowly took the points 7-5 (58-50).

It was a net gain for Poppleton though, as their third team took 8½ points at Academy 2 in division six with an assured 61-47 win.

Stuart Langley and Mal Pringle, with 2½-24, were the only hands on deck for York 4 as hosts Appleton Roebuck 2 claimed an inaugural win in level three.

A superb performance from Oliver Hicks and Nick Latcham, with an unbeaten 2½-23 for Heworth, swung a division five nail-biter 58-50 at home to Starbeck 2.

Heworth’s 8½ points were bettered by Starbeck 3, who took 11½ points against Heworth 2 in their division seven mirror fixture.

Trevor Watson stepped down to David Lloyd 2 and partnered Ian Campbell to an unbeaten 2½-21 in a very close call away to promoted Copmanthorpe 2.

Lloyd took the match 57-51, but came away with a healthy 8½ points.

Adrian Shakeshaft and Kieren Screeton were match-winners for Wilberfoss against York 3 in division five.

With 3-26, the pair helped Wilberfoss turn around their match at York to win by the slenderest of margins having trailed 20-16 after the first round of games.

This week’s top scorers were Pat Woodward and George Lintott, who won 33 games at home for Riccall in a whitewash of Pocklington in division seven.
