CHAMPIONS Coneysthorpe ‘A’ finished the SLT FM Solutions Ltd York & District Table Tennis League division one season in style by thrashing the bottom two teams, Clarence ‘B’ and University ‘A’ 10-0.

Despite a battling 7-3 victory over University ‘B’, an unbeaten effort from student Isaac Beevor was enough to consign Clarence to relegation to division two.

University will now need to prevail in a play-off against division two runners-up York RI ‘D’ to retain their top-flight status.

In division two, Bootham ‘D’ had a strong finish, first holding their ‘B’ team to a 5-5 draw and then beating a depleted Wetherby 6-4.

John Temple secured his best win of the season with an excellent five-game victory over Alan Balmforth, which was secured with two thumping forehand hits.

Mark Blackburn was too powerful as he guided York RI ‘D’ to a 6-4 victory over Shepherds ‘A’ and York RI ‘C’ showed no mercy as they whitewashed Ryedale@ RI.

Mikey Arnold turned in a stunning performance, not dropping a game as York RI ‘E’ secured a shock 6-4 victory over Bootham ‘C’. But the four points obtained were enough for Bootham to finish third.

In division three, Bootham ‘F’ secured promotion as Steve and Matt Ayres were again undefeated in a 7-3 defeat of Clarence ‘D’.

Shepherds ‘C’ are relegated to the bottom tier following an 8-2 thumping by BT ‘A’, leaving Crescent ‘E’ to contest the relegation play-off against division four runners-up Bootham ‘G’.

Champions RI ‘F’ prevailed 6-4 against Burnholme ‘B’ thanks to a treble from Adam Ridley.
