STAR apprentice Jack Garritty, who needs only one more winner to reduce his claim to the minimum 3lb allowance, can reach that milestone success at Newcastle this evening when he could well complete a treble.

The Malton rider, who scored on La Dorotea for Richard Fahey at Southwell yesterday, rides Gin In The Inn and Signoret for his Musley Bank boss and the pair are fancied to provide Garritty with a first-and-last-race double.

Gin In The Inn, a halfbrother to useful stable three-year-old Grandad’s World, scored handsomely on his debut at Leicester and goes to post in the EBF Stallions/Hardwick Hall Hotel Novice Stakes.

Garritty’s current 5lb claim erases the penalty the juvenile picked up for his opening success and gives him the edge over Ravenhoe, the other previous winner in the race. Gin In The Inn is napped to win again.

Signoret lines up in the Northeast Oyster Festival On Tour Newcastle 2015 Handicap after a fine effort to chase home the smart Dragon King at Ripon recently.

That race was over six furlongs and Signoret now has to prove herself over the minimum trip and off a 5lb higher mark. But she did not look short of speed at Ripon and she is taken to go one better.

Great Habton trainer Lawrence Mullaney has good prospects of winning the Ramside Hall Hotel Golf And Spa Handicap with First Sargeant, yet another of Garritty’s mounts.

The five-year-old chased home Sheriff Of Nawton at Doncaster last month and will have benefited from that outing. He was a winner at Windsor last October for Michael Appleby.

In the Bar Beyond In The Gate Handicap, Tamayuz Magic should go well for Sheriff Hutton trainer Mick Easterby.

The mount of Duran Fentiman finished a creditable third at Doncaster four weeks ago. A dual-winner last season, he can resume the thread this evening.

Also worth noting at the Gosforth Park track are the speedilybred Thesme (5.45), who would need to be anything more than of average ability to make a winning debut for Nigel Tinkler in a modest maiden, and Makin The Rules (6.15), who figures on a handy enough mark on his first outing for David O’Meara.

At Nottingham, Azagal may be the one to be on in the 32Red On The App Store Handicap, which has attracted only four runners.

Tim Easterby’s filly gained her only win last season in early May and is fancied to come good again early in the campaign.

Fergal Lynch has the mount.

Freddie Tylicki partners Steve Rogers in the 32RedSport.com Handicap.

Roger Varian’s four-yearold has won both his starts at Wolverhampton this year and is now switched to turf. There is no reason why this lightly-raced and plainly talented horse can not continue his progression on grass. He is not to be dismissed lightly.

Celtic Sixpence turns out again quickly after looking an unlucky loser in a lady amateur riders’ handicap at Doncaster last Friday night.

His rider appeared to mistake the winning post and briefly stopped riding half-a-furlong out before regaining her momentum and getting Celtic Sixpence home in second place, beaten by only half a length. Michael Stainton takes over in the saddle this time.

There is surely more to come this season from King To Be (2.15), trained by Richard Hannon and restricted to only two juvenile outings, while Rainbow Pride (3.45), trained by Sir Mark Prescott and stepping up in trip on his handicap debut, is also worthy of a second glance.

Nottingham today: 2.15 King to Be, 2.45 Celtic Sixpence, 3.15 Azagal, 3.45 Rainbow Pride, 4.15 Steve Rogers, 4.50 Robin Hill.

Newcastle today: 5.10 Gin In The Inn (NAP), 5.45 Thesme, 6.15 Makin The Rules, 6.15 Aristocratic Duty, 7.25 First Sargeant, 7.55 Tamayuz Magic, 8.25 Signoret.

Today’s other meetings: Brighton, Chelmsford and Wolverhampton.
