ON-LOAN Coventry striker Shaun Miller would like to hold talks about his future with York City at the end of the season.

Miller, 27, is out of contract at the Ricoh Stadium in the summer and, having not played for the Sky Blues since October, his chances of a new deal appear slim.

The ex-Crewe and Sheffield United attacker has only started one match since his arrival at Bootham Crescent last month but was unfortunate not to open his Minstermen account at the weekend when, after he was introduced from the bench, he was flagged offside during a 1-0 defeat at Shrewsbury - a decision visiting officials vehemently contested.

On his plans for next season, the Alsager-born forward said: "It's been good to be part of a positive atmosphere where everyone is enjoying their football. I wasn't in contention at Coventry and I am out of contract in the summer so I don't know what will happen there.

"We'll have to wait and see, but I'd definitely listen to all offers and I'm not ruling out anything."

Miller, who has netted 57 times in 244 professional appearances, will also continue hunting for goals during City's last two fixtures, having raced clear twice at the New Meadow. lifting his first chance over before being denied by the officials.

"The first one bobbled up as I hit it and came off my shin so that was unlucky," Miller added. "For the second, I could see across the pitch and it looked like there were plenty of bodies keeping me onside when the ball was played through.

"I've also seen it again on DVD and it looks like I was level, if not clearly on, so I'm disappointed it wasn't given. It was the kind of chance I love to get but, unfortunately, it didn't count even though everyone was adamant it should have been a goal.

"John McCombe was slightly offside but he didn't score so, from our point of view, it was a clear goal, but I'm just pleased to be out on the pitch and I will keep looking for those chances."

Having been named on the bench for five of the six games City have played since his move to North Yorkshire, Miller is now hoping for greater exposure to prove his worth during Saturday's home game with Newport and the season-concluding trip to Portsmouth seven days later.

"With the team playing so well, it's been hard to get chances, which I fully understand because you don't really change a winning team and, when I came here, the focus was on staying up," he reasoned.

"Sometimes, though, when you come on, it can be more obvious if you make an impression so, hopefully, during the next couple of games, I can get some more action."

Miller also argued that Saturday's unlucky defeat to title-chasing Shrewsbury highlighted the fine margins separating City from the league's leading lights.

Winning just six of the 18 games that have been drawn this term would mean that the Minstermen would now be lying just two points outside of the play-off zone and Miller said: "It was disappointing to concede from a set-piece (on Saturday) because we have been really strong at them during the last few weeks but I thought we did well, particularly in the second half.

"Shrewsbury are a strong side who have been in the top three all season and we gave them a good game with a performance that deserved a point at least. This league is really tight and most games are decided by the odd goal, particularly our matches.

"We are one of the in-form teams and are sixth-bottom, which shows you there's nothing between the teams. We have drawn way too many this season and, if we had converted only a third of them into wins, we would be right in the mix.

"The change to a formation with three at the back has worked really well in the last six or seven games and, coming to places like Shrewsbury looking to win the game rather than just containing them, speaks volumes about how we have been performing.

"When I came here, the team were right down the bottom but you'd have never known that in training and certainly wouldn't during the games I've been here."

Miller went on to reiterate that the squad are in no mood to let up during the season's finale.

"We've had some tremendous results during the last few weeks, winning massive six-pointers down near the bottom and that has given everyone a massive boost, but we still want to push on and won't be taking our foot off the gas," he insisted.

"We had gone six games unbeaten and won four of them before Shrewsbury, so that's great form and we don't want the season to peter out now.

"We want to get two wins going into next season because there are a lot of things to look forward to with the new stadium on its way and you want to keep that momentum at the club going."
