“INSPIRATIONAL” was the verdict from organisers of the 2015 Active York Sports Awards.

The awards are run by Active York - the city’s sport and active leisure partnership working to encourage people to be more active more often - and backed by The Press.

More than 200 people attended the dinner at the University of York’s Roger Kirk Centre, to see 14 awards handed out, with the event hailed a major success.

Paula Stainton, chair of Active York, said: “The awards seek to highlight the talent, commitment and effort of those who make sport happen - as athletes or behind the scenes - within the city and to give recognition to the sporting opportunities available in York.

“It has been a pleasure working on this year’s Active York Sports Awards and hearing about some truly inspirational people.”
