ASPIRING professional golfers took to the fairways in a top event at Forest of Galtres Golf Club.

The Skelton course hosted the third leg of the Yorkshire PGA’s Callaway Trainee Professionals Order of Merit on Thursday and Hainsworth’s Matt Daley took the glory with a sumptuous 67.

On a perfect day for scoring, Leeds GC’s Andrew Rigby was runner-up with 69, while David Woodhead, the Hessle golfer who won the previous round of the series at Easingwold, continued his good form by coming third with 70.

Sue Procter, secretary at Forest of Galtres, said the course was met with a favourable reaction from those who played it. “We made an approach to the PGA and they said they would like to come.

“We couldn’t have had a better day for it and the greens were very fast.

Everyone seemed very happy and it was a good way for us to promote the course.”

Runner-up Rigby said: “It was nice to start getting back into the swing of it now the season has started. The course was nice - a pleasure to play - and I will definitely go back.”
